    "Bi"pyramids in the snow

Bear tracks Sal's husband Mark spotted bear tracks in the snow just off the trail. Did anyone else see them? We never would have known he'd been there if it hadn't been for the snow. Very cool! Congratulations to Bobby, Mark, and Dan for adding a couple more peaks to their lists. And a big...

Chas, the western side isn't open yet, but the eastern side is. See the thread below titled "Grafton Loop Western Side" for more info.

    Grafton loop western side

That's right, TJ. An article in the Lewiston Sun Journal on June 1 stated that "landowner agreements are not in place for some sections of the trail on the west side of Rt. 26". (the new section) . The trail work is complete, and the sign had been put up, but was going to be taken down to...

    MOAC? Looking for Hiking Partner(s)

Beer night in Portland sounds great! Nov. 10 is a definite possibility for us out-of-towners who don't have to get up early in the AM for work the next day (Veteran's Day). RiRa's is a good choice. Keep us informed!

How long to Mill Brook Rd. in Stark?

I'll be hiking Cabot (#47!!) soon via Unknown Pond Trail on Mill Brook Rd. About how long will it take me to drive to the trailhead from Gorham, NH? (I live in Maine so I won't be coming up Rt. 3.) Can anyone please give me an estimate of time or mileage? Thanks in advance for your help!

Muggy Moved Moat Mountain Meander -- 7/10

Double Bow, that was probably a Wood Lily you saw. I've seen them also at "the ledges" on the Kearsarge North Trail and at the summit.

Sherpa John & Team Sherpa featured in The Mountain Ear

Update I didn't realize that this paper is also available on the other side of the Kanc, in the Lincoln area. There are two editions, but this article was supposed to be in the Lincoln edition also. So for folks in the Lincoln area, pick up a Mountain Ear with Sherpa John on the cover! It'll...

Sherpa John & Team Sherpa featured in The Mountain Ear

For those in the Conway, NH area, this week's Mountain Ear cover article is about Sherpa John and Sarah and Team Sherpa. The paper is free throughout Mt Wahington Valley, so if you're passing through this weekend, be sure to pick up a copy. The article will raise awareness outside of the VFTT...

    Suggestions for Final 4000 footer

I think South Twin would be a wonderful final peak to finish on for those who don't bag it when doing the Bonds. (N. Twin first, then finish on S. Twin, with its spectacular views. Maybe not a good choice for a group with "non-hikers".) Of the choices you offered I'd say Garfield definitely...

    Scat/dung question...

Scat Jasonst, I agree with others that what you saw was grouse scat. We saw the same pile, and there was another pile on the south leg of Imp trail the same day. According to my scat guide, "In winter, deposited in snow nests in large mass of 50 or so scats. May be scattered if roosting in...
