    crampons on Ben Nevis?

October Ben Nevis conditions I climbed Ben Nevis on 10/18/1986 approaching up the valley from the Northwest. Conditions were much like New England in October - cool and wet in the valley, turning to light, wet snow, wind and somewhat socked in approaching the summit. As Ben Nevis was my only...

    Coolest Place You've Ever Slept?

Boundry Bald Mountain We hiked to the summit after dinner one summer evening in time to watch the sunset, slept on the ground under the stars and awoke with the sunrise. Alone as it is in the northern Maine woods, the views were spectacular.

Hardest to reach summit - Katahdin, both Baxter and Hamlin. I've only Baxter Peak on three of six attempts and Hamlin one out of two...

How to? for the last five 115ers

Audrey: I strongly recommend the Caulkins Brook route. In July of 2002 I attempted the three peaks from Ward Brook. It was far and away the most miserable climb of my 115! The hearpath up Seward was overgrown and seemed to go on forever. I still have scars on my legs from the brush and rocks...
