Building a sled to pull winter camping gear

I already have a sled......I thought that putting in the eyebolts would cause damage to the sled and cause it to crack.

Building a sled to pull winter camping gear

I am thinking about trying to make a sled this summer that I can use to pull some of my camping/hiking gear for a Baxter trip that I am interested in doing next winter or to pull my 5 year old daughter in the woods by our house. I have no experience with this. Can others who have done this...

    Garfield & Galehead

Planning to hike Garfield & Galehead in the next few weeks - one car. Would others who have done this hike before be willing to comment on their route preference for this loop and which one they preferred to summit first? Thanks in advance.

Giving way on the trail with snowshoes

There no post-holing by me on the very hard packed trail. I left the trail in the same condition as the way I arrived. My only post hole was sinking into the snow when I stepped off the trail to let others through.

Giving way on the trail with snowshoes

Kevin, it went down pretty much as you described I did judge the snow conditions for the hike based upon the weather forecast for the day along with the conditions that I observed at the trailhead. After the hike and back at the parking lot I thought (and still think) that micro spikes were the...

Giving way on the trail with snowshoes

Just curious is the usual ‘give way to uphill hikers’ is affected by snowshoe usage by the parties involved? Thinking back on my final winter hike of the 2012-13 season, a climb up Mt. Waumbek in March. It was a nice day, a light amount of snow on the ground that was hard packed and no snow...

    Carter Dome & Wildcat A-D, 03/19

Went from 19 Mile over Carter Dome to the hut and then up Wildcats and down the ski run. A last day of winter hike but the conditions were pretty warm and I was in a T-shirt for most of the day (I would guess in the 60's). One of the bridges about a mile into the 19 Mile Brook had mostly washed...

    South and Middle Carter

Went up 19 Mile and Carter Dome trails to reach Carter-Moriah trail and over South and Middle Carter then down North Cater and Imp Trails (South branch). It was a great day in the mountains and was pretty warm with clear sky. 19 Mile and Carter Dome had seen alot of use and was fast going...

    Mt. Washington - 02/19/12

Used Tuckerman Ravine Trail and Lion Head for Washington hike. Great day for a hike. This was my first time on both of these trails. Tucks was easy going low and microspikes or bare booting is enough. Lion Head was quite steep and I used full crampons and ice axe for this trail. One section...

    Jewell Trail

Hi JustJoe - Yes, I was asking about the location of the Jewell Spur trailhead, not the main Jewell trail which is know is before the Marshfield station. I assume the relocated Jewell Trail Spur is still accessed by the Marshfield station parking lot but wanted to know specifically where is had...

    Jewell Trail

Could anyone give some specific guidance on the location of the relocated Jewell trail head for winter? On previous visits to the cog railway parking lot I went up and down the Ammo trail and did not see a second trail head in that lot. To add to confusion I saw a post about the regular Jewell...
