    Sliding Around on Mt. Clough

I only made it to about 2500 feet. Bill and Duane went up a bit farther and were able to see the ponds from their elevation.

Portion of Tuckerman Ravine trail closed 7/18/11 for 4-5 weeks for reconstruction

This made the local news this morning. http://www.wmur.com/news/28581274/detail.html

Not the best photo stitching job, but here's a decent panorama of the Mud Pond on the Tunnel Brook Trail: Photo Link

    Sliding Around on Mt. Clough

Today, Billski. Duane (CT-noob from Alpine Zone) and I explored the Tunnel Brook Trail and some of the slides on Mt. Clough. Although one always wants to summit a peak such as Mt. Clough, our primary goal was just to escape to the woods on a trail less traveled and have fun in the woods. We...

Tunnel Brook-Mt. Clough - Sunday 7/17/11 - Easy going hike

Yeah, I figured as much.. especially up north. :o

Tunnel Brook-Mt. Clough - Sunday 7/17/11 - Easy going hike

I'm not sure if Jeremy's directions are entirely correct when I look at google maps. It does not appear that Tunnel Brook Road comes out to meet Route 112, we may actually be looking for Hummingbird Lane as shown on the map section below. In any event, following Hummingbird Land/Tunnel Brook...

    A long awaited summit!

Uhh, no. I will probably break out my leather Asolo's for bushwhacking. I don't think I'd ever bushwhack in FiveFingers, I think they will stick to trails only.

Tunnel Brook-Mt. Clough - Sunday 7/17/11 - Easy going hike

Never been but judging by others efforts, we should have nice views if the weather cooperates. The ponds and woods along the way are very nice as well. Check out 1HappyHiker's blog entry from one month ago. He didn't summit and still found nice views. Smarts and Mt. Cube taken from near the...

Tunnel Brook-Mt. Clough - Sunday 7/17/11 - Easy going hike

Trailhead Elevation: 1,880' Summit Elevation: 3,561' Vertical Gain: 1,861' Elevation gain on the trail portion of the hike is negligible so most of the 1,861' will be bushwhacking. It is probably three miles of flat trail walking before the bushwhack. Not sure of how many miles the whack...

    A long awaited summit!

At least I color-coordinated for this hike. :o

    A long awaited summit!

Yeah, but the dump trucks traveling the summit road during the week and the huge shovel on top loading them up kinda ruins it. I still had fun though when I look at the big picture.

Tunnel Brook-Mt. Clough - Sunday 7/17/11 - Easy going hike

Yup, Bill and I are going to attempt a bushwhack to the summit. 1HappyHiker and Rocket21, along with others, have explored this area in the past and have all praised it highly so I can't wait to explore this area. Should be another fun day in the woods.

    A long awaited summit!

It was great to finally meet Maddy and Molly. Yesterdays hike was just what I needed for exercise and practice before moving onto bigger peaks again. Next week, I think we are going to tackle Cardigan.

I succumbed to the hype and bought some Vibram FiveFingers

Unfortunately, they cannot accommodate people with extremely unique feet especially those with syndactyly. They make it a point to stress that these shoes are not for everyone and will not fit every foot type out there. Agreed.

I succumbed to the hype and bought some Vibram FiveFingers

Thanks for the feedback FT. I played around on Mt. Wachusett in mine today. They were awesome on the ascent but, as you found out, I was extra careful coming down. I was amazed at how well they did on the way up. Towards the very end though, the toes on my right foot started to feel like...
