    1984 Osseo Route?

OK, so I'm still digging around, and I found an old map that showed a border between "areas cut" by year that kinda/sorta approximates the "wrong" route on the OP's original map. The border of the 1892-95 cut is not entirely dissimilar from the "wrong" route, except that it appears to have...

    1984 Osseo Route?

Looking at the OP’s map, it is interesting that it would connect at the col between Osseo/Whaleback and Potash Knob. Perhaps it was a “considered alternative” to the eventual re-route when moving the trail… Maybe there is an old logging road in there? Just adding to the conversation….

Lost Trail in the Pemi!!!! Where was the East Side Trail - North End???

Gordon-- I think the trail junction you were looking for is .5 miles further than you'd gone along the Wilderness Trail. You were likely looking at the point where the old suspension bridge "trail" tee'd into the trail you were on (the red dot on just west of "Wilderness" and north of the 5 in...

    Belknaps...

a great loop: Beeline Tr > Cross Link > Express Route > Art's Way > Major-Straightback Link > Quarry Tr > Stealth Tr > Brook Tr > Main Tr Fun to find Art's Way and see it named... same with the Stealth Trail. Saw one guy on Express Route, but otherwise avoided the crowds save at the top of...

Mt Flume via Old & New Osseo Trails 6/19/2010

You did... I noticed it when I did the new Osseo to Flume last November

Mt Flume via Old & New Osseo Trails 6/19/2010

Minor correction... the flat piece was the trail head *parking lot*; i believe the trail goes up the bank at what would've been the back left of the small parking area. The trail did mirror clear brook, and other than being interrupted by the bridge between the VoLM and Clearbrook (now entirely...

Mt Flume via Old & New Osseo Trails 6/19/2010

It was a bit later than 78/79 that the new one opened... my folks had a place in the 'original' Village of Loon Mountain, and the trail passed within about 100 feet of their townhouse. They petitioned to expand VoLM, and then Osseo was rerouted. Just before the entrance to Clearbrook heading...

EMS not standing behind their products

Portsmouth/Newington store... Just $0.02 on another location that hasn't much been mentioned: I've given up on EMS after multiple visits to the store in Portsmouth/Newington. The atmosphere is awful (big box type store, concrete floor.. etc), and I've found that the floor help will avoid...

    USFS info kiosk at Fresolone's

funny... i fish the Pemi from time to time, i believe that some work was done on a streambank there to shore it up years back.. so perhaps it was related? that said, i agree with you on the dubious locations... no trail heads nearby... no facilities.... funny observation...

    Berries 2009

Belknap Blueberries... Without giving it *all* away, the blueberries in the Belknaps are out in full force right now... for those that get beyond Mount Major, you know what I mean. And man, does a nice Hubbard rake make you more efficient (though cleaning out the twigs, leaves, and underripe...

    stuck inside of Windsor, CT

Another option (perhaps for a weekend jaunt) is Macedonia State Park in Kent, on the western border of CT.. It has a nice network of trails, and you can also tie into the AT, check out St. Johns Cliffs... good stuff... also, not necessarily a 'hike', but there's a stretch of the AT along the...

    after-hike hang-outs in the Whites

Dr. D... I can't say as I'd compare Pemi to the 90... not even the 60.. maybe Shelter Pale? But i'm obviously fine-slicing. I'm a Station fan.. 90's are just plain too boozy to compare to Pemi.. different animals, both quite nice... OK.. but that's enough of the beer-hijack... another...

    after-hike hang-outs in the Whites

Don't forget the growlers!! Woodstock Station has among the cheapest growlers you'll find at any microbrewery.. last check was $7.50 or $8... sometimes the best way to beat a crowd: pick up a growlah, and walk back out... Moat's half-gallons are quite a bit more expensive, but last I checked...
