Summer Round Completed - Prick your Poison!!! 8/29-8/30

Well, I am not going to disclose the location... But the gentleman was a bit annoyed but not disrespectful, really. He said that even though you can see the state land markers at the road, that his property and his neighbors property butt up against each other's and there is no clear passage...

Summer Round Completed - Prick your Poison!!! 8/29-8/30

The Catskill Mountains Looking at the weather forecast going into this weekend was an adventure to begin with. Remnants of a hurricane moving through bringing with it a promise of 100% possibility of rain on Saturday. Four peaks were on the menu for the completion of the summer round, Friday...

Marston Trail distance inconsistent, AMC Maine Mountain Guide

Likewise...I noticed the same thing this past week. I wonder how many other errors there are. One thing I always believe in is the map over any printed words. This includes trail signs. When I compared the book to the map numbers...I chose to believe the map. The map shows the correct mileage.

Hiker Choppered off from Chimney Pond BSP

While Jay and I were doing Katahdin on 7/19, a woman (250 pounds) was airlifted from Chimney Pond in Baxter State Park. Supposedly she was injured on Hamlin Peak somewhere and was carried down to Chimney Pond. Jay saw the chopper whirring by....and before we hiked in the Rangers warned us of a...

NE 115 COMPLETED - One Week in Maine and 15 peaks ...

On Friday July 17th Jay H and I embarked on a vacation in the Maine mountains with the Objective to hike all of the Maine 4000 footers. One night in Waltham, Mass (Thanks Jason!) to break up the driving and an early start on Saturday morning (7/18) put us in Baxter St. Park with enough time to...

    Maine 4ks

Looks like a good guess...;) That's what I would do if I had a tight schedule. Personally, even though it is certainly do-able, unless I was motivated above and beyond, I would prefer a more moderate relaxed approach over 5 to 6 days. Especially if I had the time. I can see 48 hours to "push...

    not without peril

I JUST finished that book yesterday....after reading about a dozen or so books on mountain disasters, rescues and such in the last 6 months... That story being discussed definitely is staying in my head. There is a lot to be learned from that book. For the novice and experienced alike. Close...
