    Thinking about changing shoes…

I've become a big Lowa fanboy. I've found the durability to be excellent if used appropriately. E.g. don't expect their hiking soles to last on pavement. I don't have these but they look intriguing. LOWA Fusion® Lo | LOWA Boots USA

    Winslow state park, Mt. Kearsarge??

Once upon a time you could park near the gate. The old main trail from the Wilmot side was pretty steep and very wet. Depending on how the thaw/freeze cycle was it could be very icy. Cheers

Retrofit Kit For Boa Lacing System

I think if you run the velcro thru a D-ring and back over the tongue you should be able to create enough power to pull your heel into place.

Retrofit Kit For Boa Lacing System

The current Lowa Alpine Expert is reasonably wide thru the forefoot. Lowa told me the last is widish to work with thick socks. Since they are rigid there is not much splay in the forefoot with each step. My widish 10.5 feel pretty good in them. And my local cobbler, United Shoe Repair in...

Retrofit Kit For Boa Lacing System

I grafted a snowboard binding strap onto a pair of plastic Kastingers once upon a time. How about ultra thin skimo race liner for your smaller foot. https://skimo.co/palau-ultralight-race-liners The Koflach Degre does not have a tongue and cinches up nicely. I solved my bad feet problem by...

Retrofit Kit For Boa Lacing System

DT, If you are going to plastic boots consider the Koflach Degre. It is the softest of the old Kolfach line, they don't have a tongue, and it will accept a wide variety of replacement liners. I've used intuition, burton snowboard boot liners and ski boot liners for various activities. The older...

An Ode to a Slow Slog in Heavy Boots

Well that's what I had in mind for the first half of my walk. Then I had to go up hill. I just recently came into a pile of winter hiking and mountaineering gear. Amongst the lot was a pair of 12yo Salomon Mountain boots. So I took them for a stroll. The first half hour was pleasant because...

    Fall Tick Hatch?

Yo, After a relatively low tick summer I was swarmed yesterday. Went to my kids soccer jamboree in Concord, NH at fields hard by the merrimack river. Before the game i walked the dogs along a path that runs next to the river. The rest of the day i was picking ticks off myself and the dogs. I...
