Reminder - NH Bike Weeks starts tomorrow

Pretty sure that is just Errol off 26

AMC installing Starlink to the Huts

A lot of people run Starlink off solar. Consumption appears to be around 70w and folks are running direct off of 12v rather than using an inverter.

Reminder - NH Bike Weeks starts tomorrow

And just fyi that I just learned that the BMW riders association will be having an annual rally weekend in Fryeburg over Labor Day. Presumably camping at the fairgrounds. I was told it’s a pretty large gathering. https://bmwra.org/rally24/

Mt Jefferson Edmunds Col Cutoff Hiker Helicopter Rescue

Seems many of the trails around that area are tough. Cornice for example. We were on Monroe and Eisenhower. Lots of folks out, as expected.

Looks like the anti logging crusade is coming to the Whites (again).

Probably an over simplistic view, but feels like folks hiding behind various pretexts such as climate change and indigenous peoples' rights. Ultimately, if we are to move away from oil (and therefore plastics), wood -- a renewable resource -- seems a critical solution (ironically, since a number...

Glen Ellis Parking Lot - Quite the project

Yes, that is exactly what lidar revealed. It’s fun to see things in the woods and wonder what they were for. Thx for the insight!

Glen Ellis Parking Lot - Quite the project

I looked on lidar. Does in fact look like the old road bed.

Glen Ellis Parking Lot - Quite the project

Is that why there is a concrete culvert in the woods off the main part of the road?

Lost Hiker - Crawford Path Parking lot

Like going up to the Nancy Cascades. Trail takes a detour around a slide that occurred on the old trail. Adds like 0.4 or so.

Glen Ellis Parking Lot - Quite the project

We have been back and forth a number of times recently and it's a big mess for sure.

Lost Hiker - Crawford Path Parking lot

Thanks. Weird, all the maps I have show 2.9 miles total.

Lost Hiker - Crawford Path Parking lot

I thought the Mt. Clinton junction was a little further from 302 - like almost 3.0 miles. So it’s still unclear to me where and how he got into trouble, but seems it had to have been with a river crossing.

Lost Hiker - Crawford Path Parking lot

Did he go down Mt. Clinton or the Dry River Cutoff? Mt. Clinton ends at Dry River to the southeast whereas the Cutoff leaves you much further north up Dry River where I suspect the trail situation is messier.

Strong Northern Lights Potential Friday Night

Thx. Had heard same. That said, I’ve never seen the northern lights and suspect they are a made up phenomenon by the deep state. 😂

Dolley Copp/Pinkham B Road still closed

5/9 link on the FS FB page isn’t working. It’s annoying they put the list on FB given so many folks don’t use FB.

Ultra Runner Search and Rescue in the Pemi

Too nanny state for me. People should have more freedom (as we have for our outdoor endeavors) but of course need to be held accountable. As such, rescuers should never feel compelled to go out for a rescue if conditions are poor. In fact, I think rescuers go way beyond what they should have...

Ultra Runner Search and Rescue in the Pemi

If I don't post in this thread again by 5p tomorrow, I want you guys to call F&G. Sorry, I know I'm being silly but I can't help myself. I carry a Garmin InReach as well btw.

Public hearing on Randolph Ski Glades this evening

Mcnta5 is right but unfortunately once areas become known they either have to be managed really well or they will close. See this all the time with climbing areas. Seems like the Randolph glade will need a separate access point outside the neighborhood otherwise problems will persist. Folks who...
