    Mt Monadnock Lost Hiker

On my first ever night hike I did that quite a bit because the drainage with all the sand and dirt looked more like the trail then the trail did....until it dead ended in a wall of bushes. :p

    Hip Belt Organizer / Belt

Thanks for the link. That is actually one of the items I bookmarked as a possibility so maybe I'll give that a try. I ordered a cheap pocket that is OK but seems a bit too small for what I wanted. I'm going to try it out this weekend but I can already sense I'm probably going to hate it....

Heads up Hurricane Remnants in the whites Wednesday afternoon into evening

Yep. I actually had a Facebook memory pop up today of my last trip into the Wild River Wilderness. I went in the day after some heavy rains that year. USGS gage was 2000cfs at the time I left trail head and dropped to about 600-800cfs during the course of the day. Was cool to see my videos of...

    Drones and Jet Packs

I saw "Record Jet Suit" and the photo and immediately thought of the next wave of 48 4k peakbaggers. "I did the list in 38 minutes"..... 😣

Finally perk up those river gauges a bit. DRY out there right now....

Moosilauke Overnight via the Beaver Brook Trail - June 28, 2024

I'm usually the opposite. I obsess and pack everything the day before and get in the car from 2AM-5AM for most hikes. When that day before has a Bruins game, is a FRI, or the night before the start of a holiday weekend results can vary.... :)

Moosilauke Overnight via the Beaver Brook Trail - June 28, 2024

On my last overnight, I had gone out for lunch with my wife the day before, and then dinner (and many cocktails) so I scrambled to get my bear canister packed for 2 nights and an early wake up call for the drive up. Let's just say doing that drunk was a bad idea. Was pretty interesting to see...

Madison and Adams via Osgood, Star Lake, Gulfside, Buttress, and Great Gulf trails - July 4-6 2024

I LOVE when the trails are overgrown. Pushing through scrub and or hobblebush encroaching onto the trail I find quite enjoyable. Feels like you are really out there exploring. One of my favorite parts of wilderness areas is that lack of maintenance. One of my favorite sections of the Midstate...

Madison and Adams via Osgood, Star Lake, Gulfside, Buttress, and Great Gulf trails - July 4-6 2024

Great Gulf is magical. The walk in from the trail head up to the split for Wamsutta/Six Husbands is just stunning. All the deep pools, the waterfalls, the moss. It gets a little sketchier to follow from there up the headwall but it is still quite stunning. Makes me want to get in the car seeing...

Madison and Adams via Osgood, Star Lake, Gulfside, Buttress, and Great Gulf trails - July 4-6 2024

I love that perspective of Madison from there. It's like a volcano looming over the landscape of some far away place.

It seems like one of the things I fuss with the most hiking is where to keep those little things like sunglasses, reading glasses, phone, etc. so they're accessible while keeping your pack on. Can't seem to get a solution I like. Seems like there is always some sort of compromise no matter how I...

Highwater Trail in the Wild River Area Rescue

It was worse than the last time I did it (I think it was 2019 but I forget. I go in there just about every Summer). Many sections I hiked that time are completely gone now. It's too bad but it is just to close to the river. All the tributary brooks that feed it cause some pretty severe problems...

Highwater Trail in the Wild River Area Rescue

This guy has his work cut out for him. An impossible challenge possibly. THU I went up the Highwater Trail from the parking lot. I had done sections of it from around Shelburne ford area up to Black angel intersection but never the whole stretch from Rte 113. The first maybe 4 miles or so was...

    Wild River Road Status

I hiked up there yesterday and today and did a good portion of the road heading out today. I was encouraged overall. All the bridges I passed were intact and had no runoff on the edges. There are some sections of "aggressive washboarding" but nothing I wouldn't traverse in my CrossTrek. 99% of...

2 of my favorite areas up there. Solid 4-4.5 hour drive for me depending on traffic.

    Wild River Road Status

I wonder if there is any kind of long range plan to divert people into areas like this? I think it was last Summer I was cruising up the Wild River Trail and met up with a USFS volunteer who was doing a "people count" survey (SUN morning around 10AM or thereabouts). Kind of blew my mind that...

    Wild River Road Status

There's plenty of options for sure. I just really love following the Wild River that first 2-3 miles from the campground with all the pools and viewpoints and easy grades. Then I'll hike up and out one of the ridges and zig-zag around doing whatever catches my curiosity, finishing at the river...

    Wild River Road Status

That is a great little campground but with so few sites even if they were all booked 7 days a week that can't be a whole heck of a lot of money as you suggest. Getting it reopened does not seem like a big priority at the moment....or maybe they're just getting funds approved for a major...

    Burgeon Outdoor Brand

Neither do I but I appreciate when companies make an actual, legitimate effort to make the world a better place to live in, not just greenwashing or virtue signaling or whatever buzzword you want to throw in there for $$$. And when it is local and you know the money you spend is being re-spent...
