I can't think of any significant waterfalls, but there's lots of nice hiking in Harriman State Park, less than an hour from Manhattan. Not terribly remote, but you can avoid the crowds if you avoid the more popular areas.

I had babesiosis and Lyme at the same time a few years ago. Wasn't fun, but neither is covering head to toe in hot weather, avoiding underbrush, or bathing in chemicals. I'll take my chances.

I do a lot of hiking in Harriman as we have a cabin in the area, and the increase in numbers starting with covid (when NYC people couldn't reach their usual destinations) is appalling. 10 years ago you could usually find space in a lean-to, now it's not unusual to see 25 or more tents pitched...

Campmor is great, I was in there for a new pair of boots last month. It's only about a half hour from our cabin, but ya gotta remember that in that part of NJ everything is closed on Sundays. It was amusing when EMS opened a big store right next door to Campmor... it lasted about a year IIRC...

I'll answer my own question, yes, the stream isn't exactly roaring but there is water. It was a good trip.

Anybody been up this trail recently? Is the stream along the lower part of the trail is a reliable source of water given the dry summer we've had? I'm packing for this weekend and trying to gauge how many water bottles I need to bring.

If you mean where did I start, Chester, CT. It's a Hatz CB-1 biplane, built in 1987. Slow, it only cruises around 75-80mph, but it's a lot more fun than driving. :cool:

Looks like about 7 miles from the AT trailhead, unless there's something closer I'm not seeing. At Twin Mt. it looks the Tuttle trail connecting to the Sugarloaf trail is pretty close. Franconia, I don't see the Coppermine trail but I see the Tucker Brook trail pretty close. Near Falls...
