I don't think I would have ever hiked in the Catskills or ADKs had it not been for the VFTT gatherings. I was born and raised in CT, but have never really hiked there, so that would be great fun. I would also go back to the ADKs because there is so much to hike and to Maine/Eustis. FWIW, I think...
Nice trip report! Reminds me I need to finish Middlebury Gap to Mass Line at some point when I move back to the US.
Despite the rain and cold, sounds like you had good friends plus Long Trail, Otter Creek, Magic Hat and others to help you through.
Watson Path - used it 2 of 3 times for a one day pres, but I prefer Valley Way.
Training - Wildcats and Carters in a day is good prep
The number one thing I would advise is to sleep at a local place after the traverse. It is AWFUL trying to drive afterwards, especially when you spot cars which...
The Gourmet Hut trips are amazing - fun people, good hiking and GREAT food.
A few of us have even almost froze to death at Carter Hut for this food.
Not an event to be missed. If I could find a way to make it back across the pond for May, I would! :D

Lowe's was a skating rink after initial mud/rock/ice lower trail - stretches of hard ice that became slight mushy by end of day. Upper Randolf has snow, broken out by boots. Jefferson snowfields are similar - broken out by boots only. Jefferson has snow and ice, with on section of...
My sister and I would go hunting for arrowheads in the back woods of my aunt's house. We would go on long walks with my aunt and uncle around rail road tracks, back country roads in central Connecticut.
My parents preferred hotels and malls to campgrounds and trails, so I didn't really hike...
Consider staying in the area after the hike. After my traverses, I've had to get back home afterward and it is really awful and dangerous to drive when you are that tired. Pick up your car spot, and get some sleep!
Nice video, Uncle Arm! Is this the start of a new film, "The Man With One Red Snowshoe"?
Looks like a beauty of a weekend!
I desperately want to go back to Baxter in winter!:D
Conditions: hard, hard pack snow just about all the way. At the end of the day, the last mile was softening up.
There is a section of trail below the intersection with Scaur Ridge that is very steep and icy. We used microspikes for this section on the way down, but crampons might have helped...
It was a fantastic day, with great views. We started at Imp, went to Zeta Pass, up and back to Carter Dome, down to 19 mile. Saw a total of 10 people, 3 dogs.
It's always fun to run into familiar faces on the trail!
Summer:
Finish the NE67, the rest are non-Baxter, Maine.
I signed up for a trail running series in western NH (gulp)
Hopefully another trip to the ADKs Gathering
Fall:
Get married!
I have my own personalized mug at the Woodstock Inn*, so umm.. I can only guess its in one of the higher categories ;)
*joining the mug club gets you reduced price beer for the rest of your life
I think this was a good tactical move, and I plan to use it on any long traverse. ;)
Great job - it was great fun to follow along online to check your progress! Next time we want video updates :)
I like Bethlehem for the history, the old theater, the location (between Twin Mountain, Franconia and Littleton).
Its a quiet town and you don't have to worry about traffic!
I spend a fair amount of time at the Woodstock Inn, so a close second is Lin/Wood.
