canadian wildfire smoke choking the whites...

So interesting where the smoke appeared. Springfield, VT this morning, noticeable fire smell, hazy, hazy skies. 35 miles south or so down Connecticut River Valley...nothing...clear as a bell, gorgeous sunshine, no smoke or smell.

The Jays via Long Trail 1/23/2010

Glad you had a fun day way, way up north! Meri and I hiked up there a couple weekends ago and it was the most gorgeous day I've ever spent in the wintry woods. Marty, IIRC there was a person sized hole through the fence in a pretty obvious location. We didn't have any difficulty getting...

    Favorite Podcasts

Since many, many folks here drive long distances to get to and from trailheads (myself included) and are often tired on the way there and the way home, I find that certain podcasts(previously named, but deleted and now to remain un-named due to being not hiking related) can be an excellent way...

    snoe down?

For all you music/outdoor lovers out there... http://www.snoedown.com/ This is apparently being held in Rutland this year. Chip was just looking up where Sharon Jones was playing and found this. Thought there might be some interest for some folks here on VFTT. Jen

Ha! That porkie picture cracked me up! Thanks for a good laugh. What a goofy (although dangerously pokey) critter!

    Kipling describes fall in VT

I stumbled on this today while reading about Rudyard Kipling's estate in Dummerston, VT. As Fall quickly arrives here in New England I thought there might be other folks who would appreciate this very apt and poetic description of the season: Hope everyone gets to enjoy looking into the...

    Shhhhhh... I'm not telling...

Wow...it all looks so familiar somehow. :-) I had a visit from 3 dolphins (I think that's what they were) for my dinner time. They swam by to the left and then about an hour later they swam by to the right. Great time of year to be there. Can't wait to go back someday. It is a great place...

    Who does trail work?

Trail work, my thoughts: I did trail work once with a group. It was organized by Hillwalker and Paradox was there I think...and I can't remember who else now, but a handful of folks. We were trying to make a patch of trail on the AT near Wentworth less muddy (this was a bunch of years ago). It...

    Dolomites!

Wow Rebecca! Way to go. Great photos and what a fantastic solo adventure. Between your TR and Pudgy_Groundhog's TR, Vermont is looking a little ho-hum right about now! :-)

Inspiring photos! I don't have kids but without reservation I second what Giggy said. Way to go and thanks for sharing with us.

Wow! Leaf...loved reading that report and looking at the pictures. Bad a$$! You've got a great trip report writing style. Thanks for sharing. Awesome job. I've been feeling kind of blah today, but that just pumped me up enough to... go finish the dishes and make dinner.

Lost and Found (both) on Jefferson

Did anyone lose a pair of sunglasses on the Castle Trail to Jefferson recently? If so PM me. On a somewhat sad note :( I lost my stuffed moose hiking buddy someplace on my descent. I lost him somewhere between the Link Trail (1/4 mile or so from the junction with the Castle Trail) and my car...
