Katahdin for the Last Day of Winter 2012!

most excellant trip - nice pix woody! These days, its all about quality and not quantity for me in regards to peaks and if your gonna do one trip to the mountains - Baxter is the way to do it. The winter gem.... by going in via CP in winter - you earn that summit - no real "easy" way up...

Millinocket Dumpsters and La Casa Re-Opening

As we all know, Baxter has a pack in pack out policy...was curious if anyone knows of any good dumpster sites in the nocket, so carrying trash 350 miles back home doesn't have to happen in the future. I would be willing to toss a business owner a few bucks for dumpster use...just curious if...

    marshfield station parking

It appears lower. Was up there on sat and the lot is signed (hiker parking) and plowed. I don't think the cog is open this year (not 100%, been out of the loop/news lately) and there was no box or indication that they were charging $ to park.

    Mount Hood guides

heck - if you can, and your gonna pay the cash anyway, try getting on a different route than the south side. The southside is good as its a classic, but for that kind of cash, see if you can do a less travled route for $720 bucks. to give you an idea of the soutside route - its 3.5 miles...

    Mount Hood guides

I don't think you will go wrong with them - I did not use a guide on Hood, but did see them on the hill and can't say I saw anything "bad" with them. They are certainly the "service" for the Oregon peaks, know the peak, etc. Mt Hood is a classic, have a great time.

Winter in the Whites and being prepared

Hi Seema: FWIW, before I knew about VFTT, the 48, etc.. I used to use Grey Knob as a winter base and really cut my winter teeth in that area. I had summited most of the pressies, franconia in winter well before lower peaks in NH and if I think if done right - there is no problem with this...

Car break ins on Zealand Road

In an ideal world, police would look the other way, but unfortunately as much as I think the police (i don't want to speak for them, but know a few and pretty sure privately they share this opinion) would love to look the other way if you tuned the perp to a bloody pulp (which I fully support...
