lincoln woods trail, snowpack post-Dec 29/30 storm?

Hi--can anyone comment on the snow depth in Lincoln Woods area now. Specifically, for XC skiing. I skiied in Waterville yesterday and they got plenty. Similar conditions on the ground/in the woods in Lincoln? Thanks! --Carla

water levels, north twin little river crossings

Did NH get enough rain yesterday (9/19) to make the river crossings difficult heading up to North Twin? I was in Crawford Notch last weekend and it was all so dry dry dry that streams were nothing. Any 411 on the North Twin area, post-rain would be helpful. Thank you! --Carla

Hello New Hampshire and other friends--I know it's early days yet for this winer, but I'd love to hear some reports tomorrow and Weds after the incoming snow storm. Please let us know of any skiable snow in your 'hood--either groomed trails or backcountry. Thank you!

beaver brook xc ski trails-anyone been there recently?

Hello all--any info on conditions of beaver brook xc ski trails (off 3). I have never skiied these trails but hope to this weekend. Are they pretty clearly/obviously marked? I saw that the parking lot was plowed, at least as of last weekend--no major snow in NH the past week, right? Thanks---...

New Hampshire trail steward program, new and fun

Hi VFTTers-- I recently started a new volunteer job as a trail steward for the WMNF. They are definitely looking for new volunteers, so I thought I'd post it here. It's a lot of fun and quite simple. Each summer weekend day there are a couple of us (a WMNF ranger or intern and a volunteer like...

favorite 3-4 hour hike near Campton NH

Hi gang--I know some of you will have an opinion (ahem!). I have 3 hours to hike near Campton NH. Can you recommend some hikes that aren't super long, but still offer a workout of sorts? For reference, I hike about 2 miles an hour. I wouldn't want to drive more than 30 mins from Campton in any...

snow counts?--can we get some reports from the field?

I know a few people reported in yesterday (via the "hype" thread) but I'm wondering if we can get some updates now that the dust has settled, so to speak? How are things looking on the ground for this weekend? If you have a moment, inquiring minds down here in the frigid but relatively snow-free...

    Snow up there?

Northeners: Not that you'll need much coaxing (ahem), but can you post your snow levels as the long weekend commences and goes on? We flatlanders have a hard time getting an accurate (eye-witness) read on how much snow there really is vis a vis should we bring snowshoes etc. With a four-day...

Carr Mountain via Carr Mountain Trail, 11/2

Saturday 11/2/2013 Trail Conditions: Trail is not heavily trafficked, it seems. A few river crossings, all rock-hoppable, no problems. As the trail gets out of the hardwoods and closer to the summit it's mossy and very slippery with roots and wet rocks hidden beneath the leaves and moss...

Foliage report in White Mountains and valleys....

Hi folks--for those who live up in NH--is the foliage turning up there already? Just beginning down here in MA, but I expect different up North. I think it usually peaks around the second week in Oct, but I wonder if things are beginning to "show" up there now--> this last weekend in Sept...

snow levels in Whites from Weds/Thurs snow (rain?) storm

Hi folks--we got about 2 inches of slush overnight and now it's raining here in Cambridge. For those of you who live up near or in the Whites, can you send some info on how the trails looking are in terms of snow cover? I guess the basic question, for this weekend are you thinking snowshoes are...

bike path walk from Greeleaf trailhead down to Skookcumchuck trailhead?

I am planning to go up Skook to Lafayette and then come down via Greenleaf trail. Do you guys and gals know about how long that walk back to the Skook lot is, via the bike path? I may do a bike spot, but the simpler thing would be to walk back to car, if it isn't super long. Thanks! --Carla

Date of Hike: Saturday 4/28 Trail Conditions: To add to the information provided by Bryan... Hancock trail fairly dry and clear--thank you! There are many water crossings on the Cedar Brook trail that are now fairly high and sometimes a bit confusing because of the river braiding, plus the...

Date of Hike:4/7/12 Trail Conditions: Only a little muddy and wet lower down, but mainly dry. A few icy sections on the Smarts Brook Trail as it ascends through woods--my guess is that these patches will melt this week. Icy snow and plain old ice on Sandwich Mt trail from intersection with...
