    water on Davis Path

We will be hiking the Davis Path to Mt. Isolation next weekend and will set up camp along the way. Where would there be reliable water this time of year?

    Yellow Yellow the bear

I can't understand why the DEC doesn't install bear vaults in the high use areas. They seem to be in all of the National Parks and have been for years. This is even more important now with this bear who can open the canisters.

    Doubletop - Old Seager Road

Attemped Doubletop from Big Indian yesterday. Never saw the view. Looking back at the map now I don't think we went far enough. Nothing new there but the reason I am posting this is to let you know of the fantastic waterfalls on Dry Brook further up from Flatiron. If you keep heading up the road...

    Panther Mtn.

Panther mountain from Fox Hollow. Only made it to first summit/over look. If we didn't turn around at that point it would of been wet since it started pouring by the time we got to the car. Met a young lady just starting up as we were descending. She didn't look like she knew what she was doing...

    Pharoah Lake

We have never been to Pharoah lake and will be heading there in a couple days. Are bears an issue there this time of year? Don't really want to bring the canister if we don't have to.

Icy conditions. Some of us had crampons and others had screws in their boots. Crampons worked better but not required.

    best dog for hiking

What about paws icing up? Is there a breed that is less susceptible to ice buildup? I have an English Setter that can hike more miles than I will ever be able, however he will get ice between his paws which will eventually lead to bleeding.

Elk Lake trails closed for hunting season

Please tell me you aren't being serious.

Elk Lake trails closed for hunting season

I know it is private property, but I don't agree that they can do whatever they want. They are located in one of the most beautiful places in the country and they should be obligated to allow public access at all times. I realize this reeks of socialism but should the ones with the most money...

Elk Lake trails closed for hunting season

Why are the trails closed? Are hunters on private land more likely to shoot hikers verses hunters on public land?
