The Sharkstooth (12,630 ft), Northeast Ridge (5.6), RMNP, CO (9/6/09)

Wow, cool trip report leaf. Sounds like you had a blast. Oh wait, I did that? First time in CO and it was pretty cool. Lots of trails and high peaks to get back and hike up. I can't wait to get out there again.

    Zermatt - The Matterhorn 4478m

Great pics Darlene. Sounds like the ride down was pretty exciting.

    Choose your partners wisely

Sad story but one that we will probably hear again and again. Unfourtanetly mountaineering is not immune to having its share of arrogant athletes who only think about themselves. Dodo is the same as any other modern day pro football or baseball player who has lots of talent but very little...

W48 completion on the Bonds 1/24/09

Way to go Mats. Had fun freezing my butt off with you. Having never hiked in the Bonds before it looks like I picked the wrong weekend to check it out. Oh well, it’s never dull spending time with the “matsinator” so I should have expected nothing less than what we got. Actually, I decide to...

    Alpinist Mag Closes

I hope they resume printing. It's a great magazine. Awesome photos and terrific in-depth articles. I'm bummed that I never picked up any of the back issues while they were available. They might want to consider increasing their advertising though. I counted only 9 ads in almost 100 pages. Not a...

    Soft Shell Jacket Choices

I have the Marmot Leadville. It's been pretty good and has handled a wide range of temperature so far. It doesn't have a hood, which I thought I would miss having, but that hasn't been the case. I carry a light hard shell for extra wind and rain protection as well. The Patagonia Ascensionist is...

    North Kinsman

Wow, look at all that snow. Now I know why my flight from Charlotte, NC was delayed for two hours on Sunday. Sounds like you guys had a good time though.

    Bear Down!

The show is pretty cool but he has to STOP eating raw animal parts. The last show that I happened to watch he ate the liver of a yak, followed by one of its eyeballs. Is that entirely necessary? Is that ever going to be an option for the average person trying to survive? Cool show though.

    hand warmers

I've used the liquid fuel type in the past and it worked pretty good. The only problem is it will leak a small amount of fuel if you over fill it. Sort of like a Zippo lighter. I have never used it while hiking though. Only during ice fishing or watching a high school football game where I'm...

    Self Arrest theory ve practice

I don't think I would practice self-arresting with crampons on. Not worth tearing an ACL in order to practice for the real thing. Although a self-arrest on a rope team would require using ones feet in addition to the ice axe, so it might be helpful to have a feel for having them on.

    Beer Night Boston Thursday 10/30....

OK now this makes a lot more sense. I have been posting to another VFTT site, Vermont Farmers Tractor Talk, for the last two months by mistake. That explains some of the odd replies I was getting back. Although I did find some links to killer deals on tractor parts and accessories. Can't make...
