Owl's Head (not quite) 10/11; criminal activity

Rode mountain bikes in the Lincoln Woods trail and hid them in the woods a ways up the trail to Black Pond. Did the bushwhack from Black Pond to Lincoln Brook, no problems. Lincoln brook trail muddy, but not too bad. Water in the river was high, however, and the last river crossing before...

    Trail suggestions for Swiss Bob-ing

Bearing in mind the previous cautions about ski slopes, the new "ski trails" along the side of the lower cog railway are just about the right gradient for a sled.

    Owl's Head Slide?

Just back from the slide today-- it's very icy. See my post (coming momentarily) in "trail conditions."

Owl's Head week of March 6

Hello-- I'm planning a try at Owl's Head early next week (M/Tues/or Weds), wondering if anyone would care to join me? I plan to ski Lincoln Woods at least, and perhaps beyond. Black Pond cut-off or stick to trails, depending on conditions for skiing. Happy Weekend!

    Gear Rental - Portland, ME

MMW closed their "main" store on Marginal way, where they had the consignment area and gear rentals, but they still have a smaller location in the Old Port (Commercial St.) Same wonderful people, but less gear-intensive, alas. Can't think of any other place to rent a bag, but I just came from...

    Hike and ski Wildcats?

I carried skis from Carter to Wildcat five years ago, and agree with the previous admonition about overhead clearance. I don't think I've ever walked so far doubled over. My back still hurts. But it was worth it for the trip down! With luck the aforementioned trailwork has improved the...

    Who got you started?

My parents, bless them, took me (and my brother) on forced marches throughout the Whites from a tender age. Vivid memories include a lighting storm on the Franc ridge, sweating out the flu at Lakes, and seeing Mom almost swept downstream in some unknown river somewhere. I objected so...

Two more 1) Slide on South Tripyramid-- by far best glissade of my young life thus far. 2) Flume slide-- also worth mentioning. Have fun!
