New Hampshire 200 Highest and New Hampshire 300 Highest Lists

Well, I happen to have a picture of the offending entry courtesy of my friend Greg. In it's totality it says: "The things I do for *the f word* named Greg. Sheesh all these miles for something I had already! Oh well, filling in my 3K grid (smiley face)" The Greg in question, is as I say, my...

Yes, I surmised as much. But I stand by what I wrote above that it does not bother me. I don't blame you. Won't judge you on the act. S'all good. Though I do admire your dedication I would venture that the single F word written in that entry on a piece of paper to be seen by perhaps...

Some very great points, John, and to illustrate the above point a short example. Keith D'Alessasndro is a friend. I won't hide the fact, and consider him well worth knowing. I like to think he holds me in a fair regard as well. Now, you would think that I asked for the NH300 list and...

You are correct. I misunderstood Keith when he said JR did not finish the NH300. He said that JR's NE1000 list fell 13 peaks short on what the NH300 would be, so thus while he completed NE1000, he was 13 short of finishing the NH300. So I stand corrected. :) Brian

Absolutely! Oncoman is but another legend of sorts. There are a few people who's entries you go into a log almost expecting, Oncoman among them (Nefarious Nate and Al Bernier a.k.a. Albee the others :D ). I have not had the pleasure of meeting Oncoman yet, though 2 of my friends happened to...

New Hampshire 200 Highest and New Hampshire 300 Highest Lists

Doing the NH300 list was one of the toughest and most rewarding tasks I have ever done. It is not that some of the whacks are harder than any others, but the time investment in driving and the lack of beta for so many of them was enough to drive one mad. I can't even begin to remember how many...

Coyotes: Followed by a pack in Belknaps. Anyone else ever have an issue with them?

Reminds me of one time I was out pheasant hunting with a friend. We were working a small field in Epping (NH) and I stumbled upon half a jaw bone, a bit of skin fragment and collar of someones beloved pet cat (no tags on it so we could not inform the owner). This was a clear cut coyote kill...

    Wildcat pass required for hikers?

Amen brother. It is one thing if the USFS turns around and says "Ok Wildcat, yes you can do that." But until then they can kiss my a$$. People can babble on about "leased land" this and "trespassing" that, but until the USFS says Wildcat has any right to do so they are crazy if they think...

Coyotes: Followed by a pack in Belknaps. Anyone else ever have an issue with them?

Ooops, it was a mother and daughter, not mother and son: http://www.wmur.com/news/30237028/detail.html Also it was in Atkinson (don't know why I thought Rochester), which may seem surprising at first (being in one of the more urbanized areas of the state with Haverhill just over the border)...

Coyotes: Followed by a pack in Belknaps. Anyone else ever have an issue with them?

This time of year it is actually becoming more common. The local news had a report last week or the week before of a son who was attacked by them (I can't remember exactly what town, but I think it was near the Rochester NH area). Typically they are solo animals, but in winter they will "pack...

    Over mitts

Darn, looks like you might be a couple years too late. About 2 1/2 years ago I bought a pair of REI brand overmitts with these heavy duty fleece liner mitt inside of them. These things are TOASTY! So toasty in fact that I can't use them on "average" winter days because the minute I start...

    MSR Snowshoe Maintenance Kit

That particular part is called a split ring and can be found in packs of a dozen dirt cheap at just about any place that has fishing tackle. You can make installation and removal easier with a pair of split ring pliers, but of course that means adding another tool to your pack. For a temporary...

    abandoned R&R's

Glad to help! What is nice is it has a simple rating system for trail condition and for scenery based on 1 to 4 stars. All of course in addition to the other details you would expect to find. Brian

I have this book: http://www.amazon.com/Hampshire-Rail-Trails-England-Heritage/dp/0942147103/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319506567&sr=8-1 It is a pretty neat resource. There is also this one I have looked at that seems decent...

Your ideal fantasy long distance trail...

"The Mighty N" trail. "What the heck" you say? Connect the Pacific Crest Trail's northern end with the AT's Southern end. What you get would be a huge (albeit irregular) "N" across the USA. Now, how many thru hikers you think THAT thing would see in a year (I mean, it would take someone with...

Scar Ridge, New Hampshire (NE 100 highest)

Yes, I have. Me and some friends did a traverse from Loon, over W. W. Scar, W. Scar and Middle Scar then down, crossed the river to a car spotted at the Discovery Trail lot. We did it when the water was flowing, but not raging. It was....interesting. But doable then. However I don't think I...
