Backpacking the Pemi with a baby + Owl’s Head! Aug. 17-18-19

***WARNING #1: Do not read this for trail conditions, it’s mostly about emotions and parenthood**** ***WARNING #2: My English is not perfect, I hope it won’t annoy you! *** First of all, it’s been a while since I’ve posted something here on VFTT, but I feel pretty good about sharing this...

    Macomb, S.Dix, E. Dix & Hough. Feb. 4th

Great conditions overall, the slide up Macomb was doable with microspikes but we did avoid an icy patch by going a bit into the woods. Broken path all the way, except for the return via Lilian Brook. The water was running freely, but the crossings were easily done by rock hoping. Amazing views...

    4 of the Maine 6-pack. Sept.24-25 2011

Snow (cup), N. Kennebago Divide and Whitecap, Elephant the second day. Not much to say, except that the road conditions are excellent (Tim Pond, Wiggle, Lincoln, Morton cut-off etc). We had an Ford Edge, but my Yaris would have been just fine. We saw a lot of people fishing, and I was wearing...

Great small hikes near Los Angeles, CA ?

Does anyone has suggestions for great small hikes in the City of Angels area ? Pasadena is where I'll stay. We'll be with 8-10 years old, and it has to be maximum 4h RT. We would like to have views of the city and the ocean. Canyons, waterfalls, summits, it doesn't matter. Thanks !!! :)

Westkill (Eastern approach) April 24 2011

Icy trail starting at elevation 2600', and full snow cover above 3000'. Snowshoes worked great, especially the blue ones ;). On the western slopes, going toward Ste Annes, there was occasional patches of snow and very little ice. Later that day I did North Dome and Sherrill, both have maybe a...

    Breadloaf-Wilson, Nov. 7th, 2010

It was a little wet below, and hiked in a maximum of 5 inches of snow after the E.P. shelter, no ice. Boots only all the way, same as Pico and Mendon the day before. River crossings were not a problem either, we managed to hop on rocks and kept our feet dry. The Natural Turnpike road was not...

Road to Breadloaf TH (VT), from the south.

Google tells me the road to Breadloaf Trailhead (the Natural Turnpike -!) might be close during winter, can anyone tell me if that will be the case this weekend ? How about the northern approach ? How's the road condition, is it drivable with a non 4X4 car ? Thanks !

Borah Pk, Highpoint of Idaho. 07-29-2010 (A late TR)

I got very lazy lately, and today I realized I never posted a TR for our day hike up Borah Pk, last highpoint of our summer vacations. We didn't ''Chicken Out'' on the ridge, but there was some moments I stopped breathing :o Overall it's a beautiful mountain, very fun to climb. A lot of people...

Highpoint : Montana. Granite Peak (12799’) Southwest Couloir- July 24th 2010

Granite was planned for months, but was suppose to be climbed after Borah(ID), so we would be more acclimatized and there would be less snow up there. We were already in Idaho when we checked the weather forecast, and saw four sunny icons for Cooke City MT… Anyone who once planned doing that...

Highpoint: Utah. Kings Pk (13 528 ft). July 20, 2010

(I got inspired by Trish ;) ) First HP of our 2010 summer trip was Utah. Prior to this, we decided to climb Twin Pks (American Fork) near Salt Lake City for acclimatation (my first real 4th class experience, awesome). Day 1 of our 3 days trip in the High Uintas Wilderness was a 10 miles...

Sugarloaf (Nash Stream Forest) June 6th 2010

I was waiting since April for an open gate on the Nash Stream Rd, and it turns out today was the first possible date for my NH100 finish. The trail is in good shape, some work have been done. Still few blowdowns but nothing major. No views though, it was a very wet day, all the way (I did...

    Big Jay via Jay (242)-4/2/10

There was snow all the way up in the morning, but it was melting pretty fast later. Still 4-5 feet deep on the ridge though, solid enough to hold my weight. Snowshoes all the way, sunglasses and sunscreen. Perfect moment to do that peak, I got very good views near the summit of Big Jay. 3,5h RT.

    Gannett Pk, WY - July 20th to 25th, 2009

Day 1 Monday morning, Pinedale Wyoming. We've been planning this 6-day/48 miles backpacking trip for almost a year, and now it's time to start walking for real. The pack didn't seem that heavy on paper (250 Lbs/ 5 people), but everything is as planned : everybody is feeling good, the weather...

Up the Marsten Tr after a road walk from Kidney Pond. The Tote Rd was easy to travel due to snowmobile traffic. From the jct with North Brother, there was absolutely no signs of winter hikers going that way. The markers are not always visible, but with the GPS we found our way. Pierre decided...
