https://www.outsideonline.com/2343091/best-ultrarunner-fkt-sue-johnston VFTT’s very own! I do not know Sue personally, but have been around here for years and appreciate her style. Never pretentious, always humble and inspiring to do big miles. A well deserved congratulations.

Caribou Tr. (North) - Bog Road, Maine.

Not the busiest or most popular trail head but just a heads up. You may want to avoid it for the next couple weeks because the parking could be swamped. Aug 5-18, the “Rainbow Family” is holding a gathering near the end of Bog Road. Backstory - Five or so years ago while on vacation at Kezar...

Tuckerman Ravine Trail Closures - Summer 2018 Bridge Work

Moriah Brook trail Wild River crossing beta

For those interested, I crossed today at the closed bridge and was able to rock hop across 20 yards upstream with dry feet at 48 cubic feet per second, 2.55 feet on the Wild River stream gauge. It wouldn't take much more water to make it a very tricky and/or wet crossing. Cold temps would add a...

First Presidential Traverse, Madison to Webster 9/14/12

Prolouge: Finally decided to "get to it" and do the traverse, I'd had it on my mind for months since the spring time. It was an itch I needed to scratch. But first, a couple training hikes to gauge speed and proper nutrition over long days. I was already hiking a couple/few times a week so I had...

Better map for Baxter State Park

Hi all, Looking to upgrade my map of BSP. I have the paper AMC version but am looking for a waterproof map. A quick google search yields: 1) The Nat Geo map, looks nice and I like my Allagash maps from Nat Geo, this one is a little more expensive. 2) Map Adventures, also looks pretty good...

Mt. Isolation and Boott Spur 6/30/12

Had a great hike up Mt. Isolation and Boott Spur on the 30th. Up Rocky Branch, Iso East, and Davis Path, then north from Isolation on to Boott Spur and down Glen Boulder to a stashed bike. This hike completes my second round of 48 and it so happens that I also finished my first round on Iso. I...

Bear euthanized in BC for eating an already dead man.

So what do you think of this? I think it's a shame the animal has been put down, but understand it may have learned a pretty scary behavior. Pretty much was killed for being opportunistic, AKA just being a bear.

Red Hill Pond and Bearcamp Pond

Both located in Sandwich, NH. Anyone know of public access points to put a kayak in? Am willing to carry relatively short distances.

NH Fish and Game public access map

Just came across this today and thought it was a cool tool to use to find a desired put-in. http://www.wildnh.com/maps/boatfish/ I've noticed a couple local ones missing (which is probably a good thing,) but have learned of others.

Bobcat video from NH Fish & Game fb page

Not sure if you have to have a facebook account to view this, but anyway... Not doing anything real exciting, just walking by. But, still cool to catch this bobcat pair on a trail cam. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=445805262114827

    Snow-free trails. Spring 2012 edition.

Well I hiked today on my first 100% snow free trail of the season. The trail up little Rumney Rattlesnake, off Buffalo Rd, is snow free and pretty dry as well. Though not a huge destination, it is quite worthy of an afternoon hike. Any other snow free routes out there? There's got to be, I...

Mt. Pierce loop via Crawford Path, Webster Cliff Tr., and Mizpah Cut-Off 2-3-12

Well...more of a "lolli-pop" than a loop but we're splitting hairs now :) Crawford Path was like a perfect Microspike or alternate "light traction," highway up to treeline. I brought the snowshoes and 'pons to leave the option open for me to head out to Ike, but decided against it for time...

    Mt. Waumbek 12/16/11

Patches of snow and ice down low along with very muddy conditions in the first mile. Snow and ice becoming greater with elevation up to about 2-3 inches along the ridge on top of a slushy layer. I was able to bareboot with poles with no problem but traction would have been appropriate. Frozen...
