    Daypacks for Kids

Daypacks for kids My daughter is 8. We bought her a Black Diamond Bullet pack this year and she loves it. With the waist and chest straps she finds it a lot more comfortable on her shoulders than the school bags she was using before.

8/19 - 8/20 Moriah, The Carters and the Wildcats

Have a great trip. We didn't end up going to Wildcat. My little one ended up not feeling good as we were coming down Carter Dome and had a high fever when we got back to the hut so Keri agreed to save Wildcat for another day.

KELTY Carrier - Journey model ?

Kelty carrier It depends on the hike, but I usually still bring the carrier for my 4 year old ( she is only 27 lbs so there is a weight difference) Depending on the length of the trail and the mood she is in she may walk some or all of the hike, but I find it worth it, just in case. For my...

    Which VFTT most often seen?

I've been up Mt. Washington, Pierce and Osceola 6 times each, Carter Dome and Cannon a few (not sure exactly how many).Modadnock is quite a few, but I have no idea

    Been There Done That!

The area around Thoreau Falls and the former Desolation shelter is very nice, and makes a nice trip up the back side of Mt. Carrigain.

Edmands or Crawford path to Eisenhower?

I agree that the loop is nice, even with the road walk. I also carried my daughter on this loop when she was 2. I especially enjoyed the walk from Mt. Pierce to Mt. Eisenhower.

    Q: Hiking Kinsman Ridge Trail

Kinsman Ridge Trail I would not say this trail is difficult, although it is steep and if the rocks are wet you would need to be careful, especially coming down. We took our 5 and 3 year old up a couple of weeks ago and had no problem, although we took the tram down (because we don't want to push...

    Saturday 4k with kids?

I agree with Osceola also. It is a little longer than Tecumseh, but the views are much better. The trail is one of my favorites. I've taken my kids up there a few times, and they had no problem.

    Best way to Carter Dome?

Carter Dome One of my favorite loops is the one you are thinking of. To carter notch hut by 19 mile brook trail, then up to Carter Dome, Mt Hight and down to Zeta Pass.

    First Backpacking Stories

1st backpack My first backpack was in 1973, with my uncle and cousin. We went up to Lonesome Lake over the Kinsmans (which were my 1st 4000fters. I didn't find out about the list for quite a few years later) and ended up on Rte 112. We were supposed to go over Mt. Moosilauke the next day, but...

Complaints from a child. How much is enough?

Complaints from a child, how much is enough I also have a 5 and 3 year old and can't imagine them climbing some of the longer trails. We try to break up trips ( we stayed at Mizpah to go up Pierce) so that the 5 year old doesn't walk more than 4 miles a day. We still bring the 3 year olds...

    Deja Vu

I also enjoy both new trails and repeats. Since most of my hiking right now is with the kids (my youngest are 3 and 5) I only take them on trails that I have been on and know what to expect. I am not very good at keeping track of times for each mountain but some of my favorites like Osceala...

    Backpacking, Best and Worse

Best and worse backpack This question really made me think back. It is really hard to think which backpack was the best. Most were really great. I would have to say it was my honeymoon hike to Thoreau Falls, then down to where Desolution Shelter used to be, up Carrigain and back. My worse...
