    Hedgehog - which way?

Just as a follow-up, ended up planning on doing it clockwise, but my hiking partner decided spur of the moment at the junction to go right and counter-clockwise. Allens Ledge was awesome as first views early into it. Great ledges and views atop Hedgehog and then the East Ledges also...

    Hedgehog - which way?

Doing Hedgehog soon via UNH trail... wondering the pros and cons of going clockwise or counter-clockwise? Would like to see some thoughts about the best way. Thanks! Will probably add Potash afterwards also.

    Opinions on Franconia day hikes

I would agree with the Lafayette Loop and Moosilauke. On the last day, I will give you another option to consider if you opt out of another 4,000 foot peak in Eisenhower. Sure Willard is nice, but its short. If you want something easier, but with a bit more length, consider the gem walk in to...

Flume/Liberty loop - Up Flume Slide, down Liberty Spring 8/8/14

Well since I finished my 48 NH 4,000's last year, I have been going off the grid and trying to do my "bucket list" hikes of either peaks I want to do or simply trails I missed that I want to do. When I "bagged" Flume and Liberty some years ago, I did it with a friend and carspot to hike...

North and South Baldface Loop Question

So this has been on my to-do list for years. Now that I have finished the 48 4,000 footers, this is priority #1 for this season and probably my next hike. But I have 2 particular questions for people who have hiked this before... #1. What is the difference between the trails that run parallel...

    Ledges On Chocorua

Personally I would put the hike off for a dry, clear picture perfect day. That route is the best route up Chocorua and anything less than a perfect weather day would be selling yourself short. Plus ledges just aren't quite as fun when dangerous by being wet. Saturday they are calling for...

Anyone Know What Mountain/Trail This Is?

I have done Chocorua from all angles and my favorite way was including the Three Sisters. Parking off Rt 16, the route of Piper Tr>Nickerson Ledge Tr>Carter Ledge Tr>Middle Sister Tr (over the Three Sisters) to peak Chocorua. Alot of cool exposed ledge with great views along the way. Then...

    The Info on Mt. Cabot

Interesting read Thanks for inquiring more about this I too have always wondered what the actual back story to that was. That said, I loved the Bunnell Notch Loop with Unknown Pond to bag Cabot and the Horn

Water crossings on Pine Bend Brook Tr and Sabbaday Brook Trails

Thanks. I did this loop yesterday and had no issues. Pine Bend Brook Tr had much smaller brook/stream crossings that were all easy. Sabbaday def had the much bigger real river crossings but all were rock hops with dry boots. Nice to go a different way on repeat peaks.

Water crossings on Pine Bend Brook Tr and Sabbaday Brook Trails

I have already done the Tri's via North and South slide and wanted to do them by parking at Sabbaday, hiking up the Kanc for a mile and going up Pine Bend and descending Sabbaday... I am just wondering how tough the water crossings are? Sounds like between the 2 trails, there are many. Kinda...

Mass. hiker injured on Mount Washington

Good info on the stuff left out... I was wondering if this happened while sticking on the main trail. I have Huntington on my to-do list maybe next year. That will teach me to stay on the marked trail as best I can!

    Cabot Parking

I just like to have as much info as I can get before venturing out on hikes I haven't been before. Yes, I started the thread in May, but I was more getting started just thinking about the hike back then and didn't have it in my immediate plans but was hoping to get to it by the end of summer...

    Cabot Parking

I know, tough one about Cabot Cabin... my original route was Bunnel Notch-Kilkenny-Unknown Pond trails loop from Berlin Fish hatchery, but SOOoooo many people have said how wet, muddy and grown in Bunnel Notch, that side of Unknown Pond and even York Pond trails are. And have heard mostly...

    Cabot Parking

Now I may change up my plans and do the hike from the northern approach of Stark. It sounds drier overall even though its an O&B and maybe a little more overall elevation since have to reclimb the Bulge to get out. Anyone done that route from Stark and know if that road is open? and the map...

Any thoughts on my next 4000 ?

Tecumseh and Osceola are two fine choices for back to back hikes. Both considered on the easy side overall when comparing with all the 4,000 footers. Add Hale and Waumbeck to that easy list as well. Tom and Field too. Of course alot of these are wooded so Osceola would be your best bet!

    Cabot Parking

Bumping this thread back up from when I first inquired about it back in May... I am finally planning on Cabot sometime in the next 2 weeks for my #48 Still wondering about that gate... has the gate been pretty much open all summer? Is it something that even needs to be worried about this time...

    Grafton Notch in Maine

Very interesting stuff. Good info! I guess what I saw then was a semi rare thing. First time driving thru so thought that was the norm. Now wish I had stopped and taken some pics darnit!
