Humphrey's Peak (Arizona High Point) 9/24/14

The hiking closure on Mt. Agassiz is to protect an alpine plant that grows nowhere else. My understanding is that the peak can be legally climbed when covered with snow, however, it's been many years since I hiked in the area so the rules of the game may have changed.

    Found item on Jay Peak

On 10/3/10 we found a small zippered leather purse on the Long Trail between Route 242 and the summit of Jay Peak. I can be contacted at seveman66 [at] yahoo [dot]com - PMs on VFTT checked infrequently.

A couple good days in Maine, Part 2: Redington for #115 9/6/09

Melissa, I appreciate the photos, in particular the first, as it nicely captures my buff trail physique and steely gaze of peak baggin' determination. Thanks again for sharing a great hike!

A couple good days in Maine, Part 2: Redington for #115 9/6/09

Thank you all for your kind comments and congrats. I would write more, but as you know now I’m lazy and procrastinate, and have just a twinge of that ole’ debbil self-consciousness about laying it all out there in print for the world to see. I also haven’t made the transition from film to...

A couple good days in Maine, Part 2: Redington for #115 9/6/09

If one manages somehow to not give even a smidgen of forethought as to what peak one completes a list on (e.g. moi), and finds themselves finishing on Redington, one ought to at least have an entertaining story line and colorful cast of characters to embellish the telling of the tale.

A couple good days in Maine, Part 2: Redington for #115 9/6/09

Scene Two - The Final 4K For Redington and the Crockers on Sunday I had the pleasure of sharing the day with Whichway and her dog Delilah, who, like me, had responded to a VFTT post looking for hiking partners in the Stratton area through the Labor Day weekend. Turns out the wrong dates were...

A couple good days in Maine, Part 1: Whitecap, Boundary & N. Kennebago Divide 9/5/09

A couple good days in Maine, Part 1: Whitecap, Boundary & N. Kennebago Divide 9/5/09 Clearly I’m not much of a regular trip report writer, but I wanted to jot my rambling thoughts and memories down while they are still fresh from a Labor Day weekend of great hiking and finally reaching a...

    Lost item King Ravine 4/27

Hi, Not exactly a TR, but I’m posting this to a couple of forums in the hopes that someone heading up to King Ravine from Appalachia might spot a lost "shoulder stabilizer" brace thing. On April 27 the shoulder brace cleverly freed itself from the shovel pocket on my pack somewhere between...

    Averill and South Lyon 10/14/06

Just a few comments, then I will shut up and go hiking. Thank you all for welcoming me to the VFTT forum. If there’s a trail there I couldn’t find it. I suspect that it may have been a logging road that showed up on the quad long ago. I was hoping to run into the trail on South Lyon and...

    Averill and South Lyon 10/14/06

NW Lyon and prominence standards Antlerpeak, I appreciate your interest in hiking on the Lyon Mountain massif, and your efforts to save me future effort on the NW peak of Lyon Mountain with the topo map and helpful prominence calculations. I’m all about “saving the effort”, although a good...

    Averill and South Lyon 10/14/06

My first VFTT trip report! At 9 PM Friday night I got the word from an unnamed but highly placed official in our household that I was child and obligation-free for Saturday. I quickly decided to take the Plattsburg ferry over from Vermont and check out some previously unexplored terrain on the...
