LOST: sunglasses on Adams on 9/10/17 at jct of Lowe's and Quay

I lost a pair of sunglasses on Sunday on Adams at the junction of Lowe's Path and Quay Trail. They were left hanging on a tree on the Quay Trail headed east, right at the junction. I'd appreciate their return as they have sentimental value to me. If found, you can email me at jason dot berard...

    2014 Spring Wildflower Thread

Interesting day out today, after a LONG weekend sitting on the sidelines of soccer fields in the Needham area all weekend. I came across the following while walking in the Upper Valley of NH/VT (seen on on both sides of the river). Cardamine dentata, or white cuckoo bitter-cress (I think)...

    2014 Spring Wildflower Thread

Not much going on in the Upper Valley yet. I have seen coltsfoot, as well as some tree/shrubs in bloom (beaked hazelnut, silver maple), but not much in the way of actual flowers. Will head to a spot where I always see my first hepatica tomorrow afternoon. Here's hoping!

Log cabin on Mt. Cabot trail for sale!

One thing to consider: ROW's are often quite specific, and not transferrable. Just because YOU have a right of way does not necessarily give you the right to allow others to use it. And they are sometimes specific as to what use you have the right of way for. As one example, many farmers have a...

    Poll on Wilderness Views

Nice job. I had to think pretty hard about those questions. I think I could convince myself to answer some of those questions more than one way. Thanks for designing this.

Northern Woodlands Clearcut article Winter 2013 -

Northern Woodlands is my favorite magazine. Excellent writing on the Northeast's forests from a very broad range of perspectives, and great artwork, to boot!

    Food When Winter Hiking

I eat/drink the same things as everyone else here has mentioned. On a winter hike maybe 6-7 years ago, I noticed a hiker on the trip (Rols) had a Kraft Parmesan cheese container that he kept his trail mix in, and that is what I have used ever since. The flip top lid makes grabbing a handful of...

Abraham via Battell and LT 11-29-13

Great hike with Marty as usual. Conditions were remarkably uniform from top to bottom with anywhere between 3-6 inches of snow. There was a bit of ice under the snow higher up, but we never needed anything more than microspikes. The trail is in great shape, with only one blowdown, a yellow birch...

The AT across Moose and Holts Ledge, 23 Nov. 2013

The view area on South Moose was cleared this summer, but the rest of it has really grown in a lot in the last 10 years!

    Sad Balsams update

Sad. Growing up in St. Johnsbury, Vermont I had friends that worked summers up there. They absolutely loved working there.

You can find the image, and very neat explanation of how this is possible on the Northern Woodlands facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/NorthernWoodlands I still haven't heard of anyone else actually seeing one before, which is kinda neat! :-)

    2013 Spring Wildflower Thread

I found an unusual thing in the woods on Tuesday. A pink lady's slipper, except the ENTIRE plant was white! The basal leaves, the stem, the flower. Everything. Weird, huh? I'll see if I can post a picture tomorrow.
