Trails used: Avalon , Mt. Tom spur, Willey range trail. Snowshoes the whole way! River cossings easy. The first is bridged and the second is rock hoppable. 12 to 18 inches new snow above Avalon trail Jct. No blowdowns and now well packed out by our 3 person crew.

Lincoln woods to Bondcliff trail had a trace to an inch of snow with minimal ice. The large stream crossing is semi frozen and would be very difficult without poles. Some minor blowdowns. Footprints frozen in the mud made for some annoying running. Bondcliff trail to Bondcliff trace to 8 inches...

We put on microspikes a little above bugle cliff and kept them on to just above Gibbs falls on the Crawford path. Trails mostly ice with exposed rocks covered in black ice. Rained on and off throughout the hike it was a good afternoon for gear testing.

It's time to replace ye olde shell. I currently have an EMS Paclite goretex shell that has been great but is pretty shredded from last winter. Ideally a Paclite shell with some heavier material in the sleeves would be ideal for pushing through frozen spruce etc. The lighter the better. Any ideas...
