    Droid Apps

I'm trying to find one of my uploaded maps to show you what it look like. I don't use it for the map, but more for elevation approximation and distance traveled (which I can then match to a physical map to figure out how far I am from my destination). The GPS has been surprisingly accurate, at...

    Droid Apps

My favorite for GPS tracking thus far is My Tracks from Google. But I'm going to be branching out on my next hike and trying SportsTracker to try and get live tracking out to my family/friends while I'm hiking.

    Portland hikers?

I'm likely on the slow side since my summer job (wedding photog) and finishing my master's killed my hiking time, but I'm on the south side of Sebago lake. I did the MOAC thing at the beginning of my "hiking career" but have wound up solo'ing for a while when my life got too nutty. Just making...

Good locations to reflect high NH peaks in water

I know this one has been mentioned, but I still wanted to share mine. :) Both from the trail up North Kinsman.

Leisurely Snowshoe Hike to Tecumseh, 12/23/2008

I was just thinking today that I need to get snowshoes for my dog! Do you happen to know where they got them? ;) (I couldn't resist!) Sounds like a great time was had by all and a much better time then my ascent of Tecumseh. It's officially that time of year when hiking without my Swiss Bob is...

Looking for a hiking buddy during my vacation week

I'm off starting on the 20th for 2 weeks. I need Cabot and South Kinsman out of the previous lists. I believe there were others mentioned that I need as well, but my "Isn't it Friday?" brain isn't keeping up with me. I'm in Maine and could easily carpool with folks from over here if you're...

    For the Dog Lovers

Definitely made me laugh loudly. And wish that my lil' 18 pound terrier was a bigger dog. Maybe I should get mine a friend... ;)

    Contacting Komperdell

True. The bolt/nut also means you get it back up and running quicker. I did everything with them over the phone since I've never seen an REI store in person. Yay for living in sticksville!

    Contacting Komperdell

Jay, do you remember where you bought them from? The reason I ask is because I bought my first set of poles from REI. They were Komperdells. Eventually the locking mechanism wouldn't stay locked and I would be hiking with compressed poles more often than not. I contacted REI and they took them...

Need some help to peak bag this winter

I need to bag these as well. Given that my partner from last year moved to California, I'm stuck depending on others to go with me as well. I hope to get at least my last 6 peaks in Maine this winter, Crockers being 2 of them. :)

    Canon 5D MkII Announced

I'm drooling. Bad. I need a mop. I've been shooting with the XT (work camera) while lusting after the XSi (for myself). Now I'm wishing that my husband would get paid more so I could get this one instead. *sigh* I need more money for toys.

    Osceolas - Trail Trotter's 48 of 48 for 2008, 11/30/2008

Congrats, TT! Sounds like a great time was had by all. Osceolas are a great way to wrap up the 48. They are my favorite. :)

    Online web picture sites

I was using Picasa for a while, but recently shelled out the money to go to SmugMug. I like the controls a lot better and the customizing. I also made the move for monetary reasons since I am able to start charging for my prints when I actually get good enough and have the following to do so...

    Past Peak(s)

I would have been smarter to just find the text versus transcribing from a sign. But it is a Monday after all. :o

    Past Peak(s)

I believe that the sign on Jim Liberty actually states that it was built on the same place. I'll dig through some pics to see if I can get the exact statement. Edit: Found a large enough picture of the sign (http://www.flickr.com/photos/garyrt/2499794957/sizes/o/). It reads:

    Flowed Lands

I think it's a good start overall. I generally don't like doing heavy PS work, but I decided to give it a shot to see what I could do. The first thing I wanted to look at would be a polarizer effect. I've found that polarizers can do wonders (although are not available for P&S cameras or at...

    alpine flower id help, please

I checked my copy of the book as well as a much older edition from the '60s. I couldn't find it anywhere in either of them. Thankfully we have the internet as an easy resource!

Mount Waternomee WW2 Bomber Crash Memorial

Thanks for the linky. I knew of it crash, but had never actually taken the moment to figure out where it is. I dare say that I'll have to put it on my agenda for the next time we are over that way. I'm a sucker for war/historical relics such as these.

Woman's Car Broken Into While Hiking

Wow. She's lucky that they didn't do more than they did. I'm surprised that they were careful enough that she didn't notice anything wrong. I'd be so freaked out! Makes me wonder about where her wallet was located within her car. Was it in plain sight? Or was it tucked away and they looked for...
