    Big Jackson, Weld region

Hi all Looking to hike alone this weekend. Not real comfortable doing something I've never done before...that isn't well marked when I'm alone. I've been to Tumbledown recently and the trail that goes around the back of the pond (from the loop trail) is...well...sketchy. Luckily, I've been...

Hi there Taking a friend up to Baxter this weekend (weather permitting!). We would like to go up Dudley, across the knife's edge, to Hamlin and down the Hamlin ridge trail. We have done knife's edge and know what to expect. However, we have not done Dudley. Can anyone give me a comparison...

    what animal could this be?

dog?! WHAT...no...that would burst my "OMG look what WE'RE following" bubble. :D The only reason I do notthink that it is a domestic of any kind is that we saw no one on the trail except as we were leaving about 4 hrs later (we saw this on the way UP to the summit)...and no doggies anywhere...

    what animal could this be?

Interesting information! we were not thinking coyote due to the size...but, if they were partly dried...true, they would be smaller. The toes didn't to me or hubby point correctly for a cat...and, the back pad didn't look quite right either (but, what do we know). As for size, well...the...

hubby and I are DYING to get some hiking...WITHOUT snowshoes or post hole (snowshoes off, snowshoes on) frustration. Toe bang!

What is recommended for adding padding to the tongue area? How would you add it to prevent it from moving throughout the day?

    Toe bang!

Can you explain the lacking "lock"? Is this where you "knot" the laces at the ankle...then continue lacking up the ankle to then do a final "tie" at the top? I've heard of this...especially to keep feet "warmer" as it allows you to keep the toe box loose for ventilation and circulation while...

    Toe bang!

It had been quite some time since we've hiked...about 3 months. The problem usually starts about 1 1/2 miles on the way DOWN...and can be pretty bad by the end of the hike. This was not a particularily long hike...about 8 miles...so, the last 2 1/2 pretty sore...

    Toe bang!

The toenail thing isn't a big deal for me...don't wear sandles much so it's ok :o It HURTS going down that mountain and can really be a total drag especially when the "out" is lllloonnngg. So GLAD to hear it's not just me...

    Toe bang!

Hi all Took my first hike in QUITE A WHILE (3 months I think)...one problem that I had pretty bad is what I call "toe bang"...as you go down...your toes hit the front of the boot and, after doing this for a while...it really doesn't feel too good. I've got a really pretty purple "blood...

    Washington?

Thanks all Really appreciating all the advice...it is happily taken with no issue of hard feelings or "overstepping". Hikers have a reputation of being concerned and caring of eathother and I take all this wonderful advice in that spirit. Bob and I have summitted Washington 3 times in the...

    Washington?

Nope, not committeed...not at all. SAFETY FIRST!!! We would have NO problem turning around if necessary (he's too tired/dehydrated/cold...it's too windy, etc). He is very interested in Washington...and...we were thinking Jewell trail as it is quite easy to treeline...and has BEAUTIFUL views...

    Washington?

We were gonna go up and back via the Jewell trail...from 302...that way, he can get a fairly easy trek to above treeline...and then so GEORGEOUS views from there. I've done it in the winter before and remember it as not too bad. Also...if we only get to the cul between Clay and Washington...he...
