    Mt Cabot

Did the hike from the York Pond Trailhead. 2-3 inches of powder on top of hard pack down low. Maybe 4 inches on the ridge. Saw about 20 hikers today. Most seemed to come up the officially closed Mt Cabot Trailhead. All were in shoes. One very confused hiker even had a Giants hat on. We started...

    Mt. Tecumseh 2012

Took the usual Mt. Tecumseh, Sosman route. First crossing is open but very easy. 2 stepovers that do not get in the way just before the gully at the second crossing. The second and larger crossing is well bridged. The ramp has some drifted powder. After the Sosman junction there is more...

    Colorado Roadtrip Day 4

Our last hike on our visit was to be the best. I had done some reasearch on the Indian Peaks Wilderness area. After getting a glimpse of it from Bear peak I knew I wanted to give it a try. The area is in North Central Colorado. It is managed by the US Forest Service and The Nat. Park Service...

    Colorado Roadtrip Days 2&3

On the drive back to Denver after our day one hike to Geneva City, we decided we needed to drop down a bit in elevation in order to better acclimate ourselves to the altitude. Rob mentioned a hike he had done solo a month earlier. It was just outside of Boulder on the Front Range. It had the...

    Slow Hike

While on the Engine Hill Bushwack last week with my Lab Dooley and good friend Ed Smith. I saw alot of deer and moose sign. I didn't see any animals because we were moving pretty quickly and I didn't pay attention to the wind. But that's ok as Mt Isolation as a day hike does not afford one the...

    Mt. Isolation 7/14

Took the Rocky Branch Trail to the Engine Hill Bushwack. The birch glades are just as pretty as they are in winter. The only problem is the firns are at least waist high. Slowed us down some. The area of the tent sites has several blowdowns. Some need to be removed. Davis path in good shape...

    Wildcat Ridge Traverse 6/26

Did the traverse north to south. 19 Mile Parking Lot was nearly full. Some traffic from the hut. All the trails are in fine shape. Only encountered one blowdown just above the slide. Usual mudpits, but avoidable. There are several piles of logs and boards stashed along the ridge. Looks like bog...

    Bonds Traverse, North South

Zealand Trail in good shape. The hut was very busy but the trails were quiet. Only ran into two groups all day. Z-cliff's views were great. Twinway was also in good shape. Usual mudpits but avoidable. We could hear the wind howling right from the start. When turning off the Twinway towards...

    North and Middle Tripyramid 6/11

We took the Pine Bend Brook trail today. I thought we might have the trail to ourselves but there was quite a bit of traffic. The trail is in overall good shape. Mt. Monroe, Mt Washington 5/13/11

It's been a while since I posted a trip report. I guess when you climb enough mountains, it all starst to roll into one big long adventure. Unless you get some great undercast or something unusual happens it doesn't seem worthy of a full trip report. Well yesterday I had a real special day with...

    North and South Kinsman 5/7/11

Mt Kinsman Trail to Bald peak is snow free. From there to about 3000 ft has some trace snow and ice. At 3000 ft the monorail starts. We tried m-spikes and quickly switched to snowshoes. The monorail is soft and unstable all the way to the ridge. The Kinsman Ridge Trail is a mix of bare ground...
