Hate to be a litterbug, please snag it if you see it!

What are those mountains northeast of Acadia/MDI?

When you're hiking at or even driving to/from Acadia, you inevitably look out at some beautiful, smallish mountains that are north and east of the island. Anyone know what that area is, and what's the best way to hike it if it is indeed hikeable?

Is there a map of Acadia with trail mileage distances on it?

Anyone know of one? Hiked for 10 spectacular hours yesterday, starting pre-sunrise, and saw only three people (and one dog) on the trails! Just curious and trying to figure out how far I walked. :) ...Not to mention, totally floored that I haven't been able to find such a map yet online...

Anyone doing the Mt Washington Road Race 2013?

Anyone else doing the race this year? Would be cool to hear about peoples' training, including/especially back-of-the-packers. Feel free to chime in if you've done it in the past, too - I know there are several of you are among us.

    Tumbledown in Winter?

Anyone know what's up with hiking Tumbledown in the winter? I heard the road wasn't maintained but wanted to check and see what that entails. Is it gated? Can you park on the roadside and roadwalk in? How long is the roadwalk? Anyone know if the Parker Ridge trail is...

Beginning winter hiking - which trails to start out on?

I'm hoping all the winter-experienced folks will chime in on this one... Anyone have advice on which trails are best for beginner winter hikers in terms of being easy to follow? I am assuming most popular ones generally will have a well defined track by the time I get to them. I don't...

Puzzle Mountain via Grafton Loop Trail 12/6/2012

Thanks so much to the handful of folks here who responded to my questions about Puzzle Mountain. Perfect, spectacular, late season hike. The Woodsum Loop (or "Loopette", but I am not sure I like that word) is a truly cool trail with fantastic views and ledges throughout. It has a lot of...

Puzzle Mountain via Grafton Loop Trail 12/6/2012

December 6, 2012 Trail Conditions: Very easy for the first few miles, dry leaves over frozen dirt and some frosty dirty. Tiny stream crossings easy to step over. Toward the summit there was more and more ice to step around and a few times the pace pretty much ground to a halt as we navigated...

Anyone know current trail conditions for Puzzle Mtn, Baldpates, Grafton Notch area?

Thinking of heading up there in a day or two and wondering what to expect. Would love to revisit the Baldpates but wondering if they'll be all crazy ice. Thinking maybe Puzzle would be a bit more tame but never been - anyone have any thoughts on whether that may be the case? Thanks in...

Goose Eye via Wright Trail 11/20/2012

Wright Trail from Bull Branch Road. Trail conditions overall excellent for the first several miles. Fallen leaves, thick in places. Lots of frost-crystal-filled crunchy dirt but not enough to make things treacherous. Crossings generally easy, a couple took a few minutes but were fine. Some...

10/25/2012 Mt Jefferson via Castle Ravine and Castle Ridge

Trek For Peace - Mt Jefferson via Castles - full report The uniquely perfect weather we had on this hike almost makes we want to put a warning at the top of the report. Pretty sure this isn't normal late October weather! It was utterly absurd and wonderful to crest the ridge at Cornice and...

10/16/12 Chocorua and the Sisters - NH

Trek For Peace - Chocorua and The Sisters - Full Report The pictures do most of the talking in this one. Fabulous hike but bitterly cold and windy up high. I'd brought hat and gloves but my friend didn't; his digits were not far from frostnip after a relatively brief stay on the summit...

    10/8/2012 Tumbledown - Maine

This report has a lot of names and references which people may not know unless they are in my running group! But hopefully some of you will enjoy the smattering of info and pics either way. Tumbledown is a really fabulous mountain and it makes no excuse for its size. It doesn't need to...

Mt Jefferson via Castle Ravine and Castle Ridge

October 25, 2012 Trail Conditions: Nothing unusual. Stream crossings required concentration and time but were not overwhelming. One of us rock hopped, the shorter-legged one stepped right on in (love smartwool and shoes that drain!) Bits of ice and snow were only in the crannies and shady...

Chocorua via Piper and Carter Ledges Trails - October 16, 2012

Date of Hike: October 16, 2012 Trail Conditions: Gentle uphill walk on fallen leaves up Piper and lower part of Carter Ledges Trails. Awesome granite ledges higher up turn into scramble at times, would be pretty treacherous if icy. It was dry when we were there. Extremely windy on ridge...

    Pineland Farm 50k Trail Run

I did my first 50k a few weeks ago. Didn't really plan on doing one until fall but it ended up being pretty cool. Here is an abbreviated version of a race report. Full version is here. ....And so it came to be that, at 7:57pm on the last night of online registration, whose name should end...

Anyone been up Grand Teton in mid June?

I am heading out next week on a guided trip up Grand Teton. I am stoked. I've read and read and read but never actually had a chance before to do anything like this. Just wondering is anyone else has been out there at this time of year, and if anyone has any advice on the weather/conditions...
