    First trip to Adirondacks

I'm heading out to the Adirondacks for the first time mid August. Most of the hiking I've done in the past has been in ME/NH/VT and I'd like to see something new. I plan on going for about 4 days with a 3 day/2 night trip and maybe a shorter dayhike to start or end the trip. I'm looking for...

    North Isolation location

Which bump is the actual north isolation peak? I can't seem to point it out exactly on the map. I hear it is not far off the trail. Is there a canister there too?

Whites from Southern Maine Sunday 20th

I'm heading over to the Whites with the yellow dog for a day hike on Sunday if anyone wants to carpool from the Portland area south or meet up at a trailhead. I haven't made any specific plans but I would like to do some sort of 10-15 mile day at a medium pace but really I'm up for anything...

Most of you here probably don't know much about me because I don't post that often but have been a major lurker for the last couple of years. I feel like I know a lot about the people here because of how much you share on this site. I'm always amazed at the hikes that some of you do like the...

Western Maine Mtns - Memorial Day Weekend

I'll be in Rangeley for at least a couple days over the weekend if anyone is interested in hooking up. I'd like to do some of the Bigelow peaks or others off the AT in the area and maybe something else on the NEHH list. I usually hike at a medium pace and bring along the yellow dog.

    Lightweight boots

This has probably been answered a lot of times before but I can't seem to find the info by searching. I've always hiked in heavyweight, leather boots using the same boots for all 4 seasons. They seem to be too much for long distance dayhikes during the summer. Even though they are well...

    Auction sites besides Ebay

I've had good success buying and selling gear on Ebay and I am wondering if there are any other good auction sites for hiking/camping gear.

    Batteries and Low Temps

Are there certain types of AA or AAA batteries that hold their charge better in cold temps? I would like to carry a headlamp or small flashlight with me and I want to make sure they work when I need them. I have a couple of sets of Nimh rechargeable batteries that seem to work well in the cold...
