    Carraigan Sunday 12/20

Had a beautiful windy day...bring traction. Plenty of spilling ice on the trail! Without traction this hike will be dangerous. Water crossings look good. Sawyer Road is still open!

    Owl's Head 12-19-15

Lincoln, black Pond and Franconia Brook trails are in fine shape. The slide is covered in ice and very dangerous. Bring the Brutus bareback tracks with you. Stay off the slide! Please keep an eye out for my bright green Komperdell poles! They are on the side of Franconia Brook trail someplace.

    Boundary Peak and Ed Hawkins

Hi everyone. Boundary Peak and the swath are in fine shape but the canister has been busted open! I am trying to get the next person going up there (she is in the Rangely area now) in contact with Ed. Apparently he has a canister and bracket ready to go up with the next hiker and we have a hiker...

    Baldpate 5/16/15

Rick, Sean and I met at the Old Speck/AT parking lot kind of late and hit the trail about 10:40. We passed a man with a chainsaw in hand and asked if he was part of a trail crew. He told us about all of the trees down and warned us it would be slow going. He said he tried but "gave up"...

    5/10/15 Elephant Mountain, Maine NEHH

It was a nice drive from Gorham, although it was nearly and hour and a half it went by quickly, saw a small female moose eating just inside the woods on route 5.....I always love to see wildlife. The roads are perfectly clear all the way to the parking area, there were no huge washouts, we...

    The Weeks.....5/2/15

The water is a bit high right now and I assume it will get worse before better? It is crossable, we had to walk along the edge a bit to find spots. We bare booted until we were past the water and we had crossed the logging road, maybe a mile. Then switched to snowshoes. We left tracks, and with...

    Lost: Red microspike vose spur

Please contact me if you find it? Size medium. No idea where except on the whack someplace!

    Vose Spur 4/18/15

Vose Spur still had quite a bit of deep slushy snow on the bushwack. The water is high, there is standing water on a lot of the ridge trail. There is a monorail down low and what's left of one closer to the whack is pretty mushy. If you don't have to go there before the snow melts then don't...

    Abraham (Abram) 4/12/15

Rapid Stream Road was slush/mud/frozen. I made it to the washed out bridge spot with some driving tips I borrowed from Dukes of Hazard. The first stream was bridged, second we had to walk a few yards upstream but made it. Road walk was packed. Beginning of the trail was not deep snow. As we...

    Goose Eye 4/3/15

It was a beautiful warm day on this Good Friday...perfect for a day of hiking...except the melting 5 feet of snow that is. I'm sure everyone who hiked a virtually abandoned hiking trail went through the same thing today? Snowshoes at the trailhead, yes there is plenty of room for parking on the...

    Sugarloaf & Spaulding 3/29/2015

Beautiful day in Maine! We took the black diamond trail up to the tower and the summit! We were told we could choose whatever trail we wanted as long as we stayed off to the side so we chose the most direct route. Took us an hour and 20 to get to the top. There were no footprints heading off...

    Saddleback and the Horn 3/14/2015

The road to get from NH to ME, on route 16, was a series of 30 miles of frost heaves! (decided to leave by 17 then 2 instead and 17 was worse!) The trail up to the top of Saddleback was groomed and snowshoes were a must!! At the top of the ski trail look for a small side trail, right next to...

Lost: EMS mitten shell Valley Way 3.1.2015

Right hand. Probably 1/3 to 1/2 way?

    Adams 3/1/15

Valley Way is very well broken out, I wore spikes. Starr Lake is well marked, the cairns are still very visable, the last few verticle yards are extremely hard!! Wouldn't have mattered what was on my feet, the snow is soft and trying to dig in was nearly impossible!! The way down was not as...

    Adam's 2/28 or 3/1 - weather permitting

Harley still needs Adams (48th), so far the weather looks cold but the wind looks reasonable and the sun looks like it will be shining (so far). I wanted to put this trip out there to see if anyone else would be interested in going up with us? I can make it either day, looks like Sunday will...

    Kinsman Mountain Trail

I am reasonably certain that everything will change by tomorrow but wanted to make note that the Kinsman Mountain Trail was really icy....definately need spikes approaching from the west.... Had a great day with new friends!! It was beautiful until the storm kicked in!!

    Tripyrmid's 12/31/2014

Pine Bend Brook is packed tight, wore micro spikes the entire way. Holy blow downs!! It looks like a bomb went off once you cross the last water, up higher. Most are hike over smaller ones but there are several that you have to make your way around....be prepared to squeaze in between small...

11/8 Maine, Saddleback and the Horn, Sugarloaf - Spaulding- Abraham or a combo of 2.

I would like to summit Saddleback and the Horn. But while I am up there I am thinking of adding another day if the weather permits? The second day could be the shorter? Is anyone interested? Old Speck or Goose Eye or Baldpate are other options?

    Scar Ridge....10/5/2014

Well, it was everything it was cracked up to be, but less. There is no longer a cairn marking the start of the trail off of the ski trail but it was still pretty easy to find, its the closest side trail from the summit. It was covered very well with leaves but it was still pretty obvious...
