Mob scenes on the trails last weekend

I think backpacking in general could see a bump as a movie with Reese Witherspoon will be coming out December- Wild. Based on Book by Cheryl Strayed's PCT hike.

Bonds Traverse Plus Zealand (it's in the way), 8/10/2013

Imagine our surprise to be heading down the Bondcliff Trail and around the corner Marty's head pops out! Great to see the three of you and catch up if only for a few minutes. Amazing clear skies. Weather was funny- one minute warm, next minute in the breeze and cool. We'll have to plan soon...

Long Pathl Feedback from Northern Catskills to John Boyd Thacer State Park

Hey- thanks for the reply- funny- I was just looking at the section with Vromans Nose in it before coming here to check for response. I will likely start in Middleburgh and head towards West Fulton over Vromans Nose for the run. There are pretty detailed instructions on the Long Path...

    Belknap Range trail question

I'll third this using the loop TDAWG uses. Its a regular loop I use- has some nice views, some nice short technical ups and downs but nothing difficult. In the 5+ times I have done this loop I have never seen another person beyond The Quarry Cutoff until returning on Straightback. I have...

    5 days? Yeah right!

Not sure what all the fuss is about. There is nothing formal going on here and if they don't want to recognize Farmer's "record" or attempt then they don't have to. Hiking is totally variable from day to day; so take the comparison for what its worth. Who knows or cares if some other person...

    My 48 Journey

Clarke- Congrats again on completing "this portion" of your journey. Many other places to see in your future. I am glad I could meet you for your finish and other hikes as well. It was quite surreal seeing you emerge from the fog onto the North Twin summit. I think it was great you could...

    A memorial to VFTT Gatherings

You have forgotten another set of gatherings you set in motion, the charity hikes. There was usally a gathering of sorts around those. And yeah, the Catskills. While the tents were set up you will recall we slept in my truck to try and avoid the rain :D
