Mt. Eisenhower and Pierce via Crawford path and the AT

Really not much to say on this one. I was expecting ice but bottom to top we were on solid hard packed snow. Microspikes were the order of the day and not other gear except to stay warm was necessary. Actually, a very easy 9+ mile out and back

Mount Mansfield via Sunset Ridge trail to long trail. Conditions?

I know it's probably snowing up there today at the higher elevations at least but just trying to get an idea.

Mt. Isolation via Rocky Branch (also # 48). Ya baby!

Very muddy in many places along the trail but otherwise, a good hike with minimal impediment. We managed the hike in about 6 hours. Edit: I should also add that the several river crossings were quite easy. Other than that, it's a long hike with alot of it spent bouncing from boulder to boulder.

    Owls Head (# 47)

So the trail to the slide is ridiculously easy in my opinion. First 3 miles you might as well be walking on a road but at least the view of the river is nice I guess. After going into the "Woods" it didn't really get any more difficult. It was wet and boggy in places but nothing major. All the...

Owl's head take 2 - going on July 8. Anyone interested in going along?

So, for obvious reasons, I didn't hike Owl's Head alone, overnight. Nor did I feel like dealing with the heat today. I just did an early morning hike up Mount Monadnock. I had the whole thing to myself at 6:30 this morning at the summit. :-) (and as you all know, that is a rarity - lol). So, ya...

Is Dry River Trail to Isolation Trail as difficult as AMC guide ver 29 describes it?

I'm trying to plan my ascent to Isolation (one of the last 2 hikes I have to finish the 48) and version 29 makes it seem that Dry river trail is fairly difficult to follow. This book is out of date so I need to know if the route has gotten easier to discern and are the river crossings as...

Anyone up for an overnight to Owls Head?

I wanted to do Owl's Head on Sunday but those temps are going to be brutal so I was thinking maybe starting around midnight and that way hitting the summit early and being down before the heat really hits. Let me know if interested.

Hiking West Bond via Zealand Trail tomorrow morning. Anyone else want to go?

So, I had been considering Isolation but settled on West Bond via Zealand Tr, etc... Driving up from Ct. Should be starting around 6 a.m.

    Best route for Mount Isolation?

I'm thinking about doing Isolation this weekend, or maybe Monday (all depends on the weather). What is currently the best route to the summit in your opinion? My White Mountain guide needs a replacement (I have the 29th edition so it's a little dated). I'm not worried about distance. I'm quite...

Mt Willey via the flume trail behind Willey House to Ethan Pond and Willey Ridge

My daughter and I did this hike yesterday. First off - if you've ever been on this trail (Willey Ridge) you know it can be a beast. Right now, it is moreso than it would be any other time of year. The section where the ladders are is mostly solid ice. I was REALLY glad I brought my ice axe for...

Updated trail conditions on Mt. Monadnock

We (my daughter and I) were up there yesterday. Microspikes top to bottom. We had our snowshoes but never ended up using them. Very icy near the summit (as to be expected). We broke trail on Red Spot and descended via White Dot (harrowing as always in winter). I don't think there is any upcoming...

Anyone know what trail conditions are on Monadnock?

Going up this weekend, wanted to know if it is icy or not

Looking forward to finishing my 4000 footers this winter - DEFINITELY not ready yet.

Since my last winter hike up Cabot back in March, I haven't had much (hardly any) time for hiking this summer - too much time filled with car repairs, household projects, etc.... but I had done a couple of short hikes these past few months. Then I decided to tackle Monadnock ("only" a 90 minute...

Mt Cabot (as of Mar 18)

Be cautious, there are some "trails" that really aren't as you get to the Kilkenny. After initially turning at the marker you will come to a point where it breaks in two directions where it goes around a stand of trees. Left is correct but right will bring you there anyway. The truly "dangerous"...

    Mt. Cabot today (3/18)

So, I'll do a full trail report tomorrow because I've been going for about 17 hours and need to sleep but: Well, the weather was PHENOMENAL but the trail wasn't broken. There had been a couple in front of Sara and I up until the people who had been in front of us missed the trail and we missed...

How much snow expected this week up in the Mt. Cabot region?

Anyone know? I need better links to forecasts. lol Going (or planning) to hike it with my daughter Saturday. Already planning on snowshoes

I'm so excited!!!! Hiked Moriah today and only have 4 of the AMC 4000 footers to go

It's been a LONG time coming but I know this is the year. I hiked my first 2 of the 4000 footers in 1993. I followed that up with 5 in 1994, 2 in 1995 and 12 in 1996. I had to leave Maine that year to find work and didn't return again to the White Mountains (or hiking for that matter) until...

Rattle River Trail to Mt. Moriah - anyone have info on trail conditions there?

I'm heading up in the morning to hike moriah. I had seen a trail report that said that coming up Carter Moriah over Mt Surprise required snow shoes so I was wondering how Rattle River might look - any better? Is it at least used since it is part of the AT? Would I require snow shoes anyway?

    Mount Monadnock February 14

So, with all the snow, needless to say, most of the trails are unbroken (as of yesterday anyway). The White dot is broken but not quite packed snow yet - easy to hike on though as far as that goes. That was how I descended. I ascended via Cascade Link and Red Spot and while there had been...

Anyone interested in hiking Moriah next weekend?

So, looking at the five 4000 footers I have left (Cabot, Isolation, Moriah, West Bond and Owl's Head), and knowing that I am not in peak condition at this moment, I decided that Moriah is my best bet this next week. My daughter normally does these hikes with me but she said she can't make it...
