    Polk/Sled Trip In Adirondacks?

Really great suggestions for areas in Western Adirondacks. Been checking details on Google Earth and terrain looks like a good fit for a polk trip. A couple of follow up questions: - Are snowmobiles allowed in any of the wilderness areas in the park? - Aside from USGS maps, is there a better...

    Polk/Sled Trip In Adirondacks?

i'd be super appreciative of any routes you could suggest. The frozen lakes thing has seemed to me to really open up access without detracting from the "wilderness experience" thing. Snow covered roads in northern maine offer the same easier access but it's hard to get awy from the feeling of...

    Polk/Sled Trip In Adirondacks?

Great suggested areas and link. Much appreciated. Follow up question. I have some oldish versions of the ADK guides and maps. Is that still the best way to go?

    Polk/Sled Trip In Adirondacks?

If you follow the link in my previous post, you can find all sorts of sled accessories. I grabbed a set of fins that let me side hill without the sled heading off downhill on it's own. I also grabbed a length of plastic chain from the hardware store. 2-3'. Attached it to either side of the...

    Polk/Sled Trip In Adirondacks?

That's pretty much where I am at. Paris sled and parts I picked up here https://www.skipulk.com/products/pulks/ . Awesome source for making your own kits or buying completed, high end, arctic worthy sleds. I went for the lower end option but could see the potential of stepping it up some day.

    Sled/Polk Trails

You are spot on. A lot of accessible rolling terrain trails are popular with day travelers or snowmobile roots both of which would take away from the backcountry experience. A few great ideas in these responses for sure. Baxter has always seemed like a solid potential. Have been a bit turned...

Ill informed question here as I don't recognize any of these names. What state and general area are you talking? Thanks much for the input.

    Polk/Sled Trip In Adirondacks?

I'm looking for local knowledge suggestions for doing a multi day polk/sled trip in the Adirondacks. I've coped the High Peaks quite a bit in the past, carrying a pack, on snowshoes and crampons. The sled would require rolling hill terrain and I'll probably be pulling with x country skis. I'm...

    Sled/Polk Trails

After decades of winter camping with a pack on my back, I've started playing with a polk. Have done a couple of trips on groomed trails in last couple of years but am a bit sick of not being on untracked snow. As those of you with no sled experience would assume, the terrain is limited to...

    Polk Ski Trip Advice

Great Responses Wow>. I was off the grid for a couple of days and came back to this flood of great responses. Thanks all on the group effort. The Catamount in Vt was one I was looking into. Nice terrain on stretch. In NY there is the Jackrabbit trail and the Northville-Lake Placid Trail...

    Polk Ski Trip Advice

I've done a lot of winter multi-day tripping in northern NE. Last season, when I turned 60, I put together a polk (sled) as an age appropriate way to continue getting out on ski trips. Am seeking some advice from those of you that would have knowledge of sled friendly terrain. Am looking to...
