    Fatality on Mt. Guyot

I am just reading the article now that was posted. Thanks for posting that link. I guess that a book might not be in the works. As mentioned by others, it seems like the weather forecast was disregarded. Sure the exact wind speeds were not predicted but it was never forecasted to be a blue bird...

    Fatality on Mt. Guyot

True. I do read that sometimes as well. I guess my point was that we often do not get the details of the incident until someone writes about it, and I don’t mean the local newspaper or television station. To me, the details in the longer pieces tell the story. Timelines, gear, weather data...

    Fatality on Mt. Guyot

Agreed. It is difficult to say what happened. Broken snowshoe bonding, food froze and he did not have calories to take in. The possibilities are numerous and the complete story may not come out until someone like Ty can put the pieces together.

    Making lemonade

Thanks for confirming my sanity Nessmuk. I grew up near the Tug and recall those storms.

    Making lemonade

I cannot recall the source now, I do believe that there was a change in how snowfall was measured at some point. Something like after a storm vs periodic measurements during a storm. Settlement/consolidation could account for small differences in the totals. Maybe somebody knows for sure if I...

    Be prepared

Always a multi tool with scissors and a good blade. My wife just used it to help someone with moleskin. Paracord, headlamp, fak, matches, map, inreach, emergency blanket because my father made me bring one 30 years ago.

N.E. Clean Power Connect in Maine - Should we care ?

Power generation in Mass was decided to be abandoned years ago when the design life of the power plants was looming ever closer and the increasing emission regs were becoming more strict (a good thing IMO). Mass would then have to get their power from other locations, like Hydro Quebec. How...

N.E. Clean Power Connect in Maine - Should we care ?

Sure, put it in someone else’s back yard. It’s the same old story. A hydro dam in Quebec is free of issues when observed from afar.

    Winslow state park, Mt. Kearsarge??

I’m a day late but I wanted to pass along that the auto road is a snowmobile trail in the winter. It’s never been an issue for me and it actually makes the walk easier. The south side of the mountain is the same. Park at the gate and walk up the road to the trail.

The changing innovations of what we do for fun

I’m a little younger than done if you folks but I’ll add my perspective. I was a scout in the 80s and used external frame packs and that wasn’t too bad. For most of us the boots were not great. If you bought nice leather boots (too expensive for most of us, and not really available), they were...

    Tubbs Snowshoe Repair

I’m still rocking that older design with the rod with eyes on each end. There are straps that loop through the eyes and around the frame. In your care, a small bolt with a nylock nut is a good short term repair as well. Tubbs will send you a replacement in my experience.
