    Northern Vermont Hike Advice

I have the good fortune of a place to stay near Jay Peak that I can use as a base for day hikes. Having done most of my hiking in the Whites and the Adirondacks, my experience in Vermont is limited to the five 4000' peaks and several lesser peaks. So, I'm looking for advice. I certainly plan...

    Sleeping Pads

It's time for me to replace my sleeping pads. As I've gotten older I have found I need a more comfortable pad to sleep well in the woods. When I was young, a thin ensolite pad was enough. Now I'm using two Therm-a-Rest pads and, being a side sleeper, I realize it's time for an upgrade. I...

    Views from Mt. Marcy

Does anyone know if it is possible to see Mt. Washington (New Hampshire) from Mt. Marcy? If so, I believe I was able to see it on 11/7/16. In the distance, well past the Green Mountains, there was a snow capped peak visible.

    Mt. Marcy 11/7/16

Up via the Van Hoevenberg Trail. The trail was a bit muddy, enough mud to use gaiters. Lots of ice above Indian Falls. Microspikes recommended. A couple of inches of snow on the Marcy Plateau. Snowshoes not needed. Had the summit to ourselves.

    Canoe Carts

I'm looking for any advice on canoe carts. I ready to purchase one. I'm looking for something that is rugged so it can take a beating and handle heavy loads. I'm willing to spend more money to get a quality product. I've been searching on-line to find there are numerous choices - many of which...

    Ebenezer Mountain

Driving north on Rt. 9N towards Upper Jay there is a mountain I believe to be Ebenezer Mountain. It has very many open ledges. Views from the top must be outstanding. Some searching on-line indicates it is not public land. It still begs the question, is there a herdpath up this mountain...

    Street & Nye - 3/8/14

Climbed via the old Nye Ski Trail. The path is snowshoe broken to both summits. The Nye summit is marked with a yellow disk. The Street summit has an small beat-up sign and a disk. The junction on the summit ridge has a sign carved into a tree indicating the correct directions to Nye and...

    Camel's Hump - 3/1/14

Up via the Burrow's Trail. Trail is well packed all the way to the summit. Snowshoes or spikes recommended for traction. Very windy on top but clear views to the Whites and the Adirondacks. 2' of snow along most of the trail. The summit has blown clear with exposed rock with some ice. The...

    Buck Mountain

Trail is snowshoe broken from the Hogtown trailhead to the summit. There are a few wet slushy areas. 1' to 2' of snow near the summit. Someone had summited from the Pilot Knob trailhead but I would not consider that trail broken out. No spikes needed. The Buck Mountain trailhead parking lot...

    Grand Tetons

Looking for anyone who has hiked along the Teton Crest Trail. I plan on hiking there this September. Plans are to hike in Death Canyon, head north, and exit via Cascade Canyon or Paintbrush Canyon. I have a few questions; Is south to north best? Any advice about the "Group" camping zones...

    Windham High Peak, Catskills

Trail from both Peck Road and Rt. 23 is snowshoe broken to leanto. Trail is broken for about a half mile beyond the leanto. I was traveling solo and encountered thigh deep snow beyond this point and reluctantly returned without summiting. It was very windy on the ridge and the parts I broke...
