    Friday and Balsam Cap

Done saturday 2/2. Hiked out of Moonhaw road. Barebooted part of the way up Friday. Used crampons to get through the chute but microspikes would have been fine. Changed over to spikes at the summit and stayed with them the rest of the day. Not enough snow for shoes. Traction necessary...

    Rusk and Westkill

Hiked these 2 peaks on 2/3. Used spikes on both peaks. Westkill was icy. There was one area where crampons would have been nice on the way down. Bushwhacked around this area. No snow shoes required on either peaks.

    Rusk and Westkill 3/24/12

There are a couple of very small patches of ice on Westkill. Rusk was snow and ice free. The temperatures were in the 80's last week in the Cats so snow and ice are pretty much gone. Mud patches is about it.

    Marine Band Radio

I am in the market for a marine band radio. I do a fair amount of paddling by myself. About a year ago, I got into a bit of trouble. Luckily, i was able to get back to the launch site safely but I was exhausted by the time I got back. Situation gave me reason to pause; what would have...

    Gothics and Armstrong 8/8

The hike from the Lake Road to Pyramid was not too bad. Wet because it was raining but not too much mud and running water in the trail. Hike off of Gothics was like hiking in a creek; running water the entire way. Range trail to Armstrong from the trail junction was nothing but mud and water...

    Interest in Delaware Bay Crossing?

Jim and I have been thinking about a paddle across Delaware bay going from Lewes DE to Cape May NJ. We would need to do a bit more research on moons, tides etc. We do not have a date set. Of course, such an undertaking could be cancelled on "game day" due to weather. Is anyone interested in...

    Assateague 4/19-20

Jim and I had planned this trip a long time ago so when the week of the trip rolled around we were raring to go. Unfortunately, when we were planning, the NPS told us not to worry about reserving a spot in the campgound on Friday night because April is early in the season. Of course, the...

At lower elevations, the trail had little snow with rocks, roots and even leaves showing through. Able to bear boot it quite a ways beyond the lean to; most of the way up the steep section.
