Mt Guyot - final Winter Trailwright Peak :)

After summitting South West Twin on January 2nd, only Guyot remained of the 72 Trailwright Peaks...all done in winter. On Saturday, January 23rd I started out from 302 winter parking area @ 5:30 am. Snowshoed Zealand Road/Trail and the Twinway Trail to Guyot, out and back. Some rocks remained...

    Guyot (attempt) 3-16-14

Went in Zealand Road early Sunday morning. At the Hut found out hikers broke out to Zeacliff yesterday in 3 hours but not beyond! Figured I could at least break more of the trail. Trail was hard to follow on the pretty open ridge so did make a couple short mistakes til it was readily apparent...

    Boott Spur - Friday, February 22, 2013

Arrived @ the Hiker lot about 9am to find it almost full! Guess everyone had checked the weather report :) Being in pretty poor shape I finally arrived @ LOC Hut about 11:20. Several others were there preparing to go various places on this gorgous day! I'd worn snowshoes to here where I...

    North Kinsman 1-25-13

Parked on east side of 93. Snowshoed up past the hut and switched to crampons about 1/3 mile later at a short steep icy downhill section. The track is very firm. Beautiful views from the viewpoint, just past the top. Took crampons off at the car...no chance of postholing ;)

NEHHw finish on Baxter Peak 3-10-12

My peakbagging began after climbing Moosilauke, on my 3rd attempt, in May 1975. I was working on I-91 around Wells River, VT at the time. I was the only one working there and staying overnight in a motel, as everyone else lived close enough to go home for the night. After summiting Moosilauke, I...

    Bushwhacking the NOSE...VT's 6th 4K

My wife wanted to XC Ski on more than Grafton's approx 1.5K. So yesterday off we went to Stowe. As I don't ski she dropped me off at the Mt Mansfield Toll Road then went off to ski for a few hours. I was amazed to see it covered in about 6" of snow! So I put my snowshoes on for the first time...

    Wilson Sunday 1-30-11

Didn't know what to expect and was surprised to see the trail broken out! This is how it has been in the past...the FUN usually begins after Emily Proctor Shelter  Once at the shelter I got wind pants and hooded windbreaker on as that's what's most always needed. When I first did this...

    Blown off Mt Clay!

Headed to the mountain I could see all the summits! Forecast was increasing clouds, etc in the afternoon...golden :D Left the lower cog lot at 7:49 and several others were headed up also. Leapfrogged with 6 folks wearing microspikes, I'd opted for snowshoes, but crampons would have been a...

    Early Mountain Summit Houses

Just aquired a 1855-1865 stereoview of the Summit House on Mount Lafayette. It shows about 9 people, 2 women in large skirts, and half a dozen horses. I've been told it was only in use for those 10 years? I find it hard to believe the horses could have made it up the Bridal Path! Maybe the...
