    Hello from an old friend

I'm sorry I missed the autopsies, Stan! Chris, I resigned my advisory role when I moved out of Maine. I might be back, though... Steve - thanks for the invite. Would love to join -it's been a long time since I tramped around the border mountains. Alas, it wont' work this time... Have fun and if...

    Hello from an old friend

Hello VFTT! I haven't logged in for a few years, but I just got an email notification about a PM from someone looking for info on Maine peaks. So, while I'm here logged in, I thought I'd say "Hello" to many old friends. How's it hanging? I still hike, ski, bike, and paddle, but I can't say I've...

    Who's done the Hamlin/Katahdin loop?

For those of you who are still limiting your visits to the Park because of past bitterness, I suggest you take a fresh look at the policies. BSP has evolved (e.g., solo winter day use). And for what it's worth, several rangers are "real cops" as they have been through the criminal justice academy.

    Coe / Brothers / Fort - inquiry

Roy, here's a shot of the Marston Slide from near the summit of Doubletop. It's on my winter to-do list.

    Coe / Brothers / Fort - inquiry

If it's raining, don't bother. Go elsewhere. Not b/c it's slick, but b/c the views are stupendous. There are plenty of excellent rainy day hikes in the Park, but the Katahdinough is not one of them. have fun!

    NE 100 Highest Route Info?

I'm unclear if VFTT has become Tim's site or if it is still community-"owned"??? If the latter, why not post a poll and let the membership speak as to whether such info should be posted on the site (assuming you can get permission from the author/collator)? It seems like searching through VFTT...

    QR Codes on the Trail

I totally agree with that. Unless I missed it, I don't think anyone has suggested replacing critical trail info (e.g., distance, arrows, names) with QR codes. If you go look at the pictures of examples that started this debate you'll see the QRs are in addition to the usual info.

Baxter State Park Update - Many trails closed

I just found out that much of BSP is now closed to hiking due to the crazy early season warm up. Abol Slide is mostly snow free (there was about 18 inches two weeks ago) and the Tableland is apparently mush (I guess I got those skis down just in time!), so all south/west trails are closed...

    QR Codes on the Trail

Perhaps irrelevant, but I would wager that 35% is pretty close to the percentage of hikers in the WMNF at any given time during the warm months that actually have, and know how to use, a map and compass. Doug - your arguments are most always quite sound and logical, but I don't think your...

    QR Codes on the Trail

Me too, MJ. Well played. I think the presumption that newbies are the ones who get into trouble is preposterous. I've hiked with many people who would consider themselves seasoned veterans but I would certainly never want to have to rely on some of them in a truly difficult backcountry...

If you lost a pair of XC skis on the Katahdin Tableland, let me know. I might just be able to make your day. Spencer

    ME 4Ks this Weekend?

Yes you can. The Tote Rd. from Togue Pond gatehouse to Matagamon is a publicly accessible snowmobile route in winter, if you are so inclined. It's a lot of fun on skis, though. :)

    GPS, Maps, and cameras ILLEGAL

Maybe the problem was that the primary language of the reader was not English ;) I'm not even a crazy landowner rights kind of guy and this doesn't seem nearly as over-reaching as implied in this thread.

At least there's truth in advertising

Hey, comrades - some things don't need explanation. Just chuckle and move on. We should work on an official "VFTT Rethorical Post Policy."

I was in Bean's this weekend and they come in packages of two. That's not a good sign, to me.
