Over my many hiking trips to Scotland I made a few Scottish friends who visited me in NH several times. They report to me that the can not access VFTT from the UK. What's up?

Can you be more specific about the “cannot access”? Is there an error message of any sort? I have blocked many ip ranges over th years as they have proven to host scads of hackers and or spammers.

I was in Scotland in the spring of 2016 and am sure that I was able to check the forums from multiple hotel/B&B-based IPs.

Here is what pops up on his screen:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /forums/index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Also the fact that the Not Secure message pops up when one logs into VFTT concerns me.

Years ago when Darren was running VFTT and when the site was open to the public there was a boys school in the UK that was sending inappropriate posts. Unfortunately the culprits didn't realize that they could be readily tracked via their IP address and Darren (or maybe Dave?) contacted the school and the students were caught and reportedly disciplined. Wonder if its vestige from long ago?

Not secure I can fix by buying a DV certificate. It means the burn rate on donations goes more quickly.

I doubt there are any remains of access control left from Darren since I changed hosting companies. But, it sounds like your friend is coming from a banned IP range. I’ll look into further when I return home as I am currently away on business.

DreamHost, it turns out, offers free, albeit lower-grade, DV certificates. Check it out now at https://www.vftt.org.

Also, I removed all the IP address restrictions from spammers now that I have the CAPTCHA enabled on anonymous posts.

Well, the spammers have found a way through, so I put back all the IP restrictions. Sorry for any inconvenience. If you can identify a person's IP address that should work but doesn't, let me know and I can change the filter.
