Hi All, I asked for and received permission from Darren to post this. It IS NOT a fundraising solicitation (the opposite actually). We (several of us) have created a 501c(3) non-profit Foundation that raises money and then distributes the money to specific unfunded projects within the NYS Forest Preserve (Adirondacks or Catskills)
We are looking for worthy projects for consideration. Getting the word involves reaching out to as many people as possible. Many of you do volunteer work and may know of someone in needs. Ideas could be Leanto restoration, Summit steward sponsorship, grant for environmental projects, etc.... Our mission statement, for reference, is as follows;

ADKHighpeaks Foundation is currently accepting Letters of Inquiry (LOI) based upon our mission as a 501(3)c not for profit charitable corporation. Your overwhelming support last year enabled the Foundation to extend a $5,000 grant to the Keene Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. to purchase equipment for their wilderness rescue team.
We believe that during these current tough economic conditions and budget cuts the need for funding within the scope of our Mission Statement is greater than ever. This year we have already received letters of inquiry and request for assistance from a few worthwhile organizations. We would like to hear about other organizations that may benefit from the benevolence of the internet community (ADKForums and ADKHighpeaks Forums) that provide the majority of our support.
To be considered we respectfully request that the Letters of Inquiry meet the following guidelines:
Letters of Inquiry must include;
Our current cap for funding requests is $5,000
We are reaching out to you the members of the forums since without your participation and support none of this would be possible.
Please submit LOI’s to:

All request must be made be email as time is of the essence. Verbal requests and those not meeting the guidelines above will not be considered.

- They must be limited in scope to funding wilderness zone and environmental protection, safe recreation, public education and biological research. As outlined in our Mission statement.
- Funding request must be submitted by an established non profit group or institution.
- Must be within or related to the New York Forest Preserve in the state of New York in either the Adirondack or Catskill mountain regions.
Letters of Inquiry must include;
- The purpose of the project
- Summarize the goal(s) of the project.
- The specific costs relate to the project.
- Other funding sources if applicable.
- Expected time line for completion of the project or phase.
- Must be submitted in writing to the email address below by July 15, 2009
