This past weekend we made our anual kayak camping trip on the CT river. 7 of us put in on the VT side just below the Wilder Dam at 7am. We floated and fished our way down stream stoping for lunch on the south beach of Burnap Island. We the proceeded to Sumner's Falls where we followed the portage trail to below the falls. CAUTION: There is alot of poison ivy lining the sides of the portage trail above the falls. Below the falls we continued on to Burham Meadow where 3 of us would spend the night and the other 4 would finish up the last three miles of the river after we set up camp. Be careful leaving your boat near the edge of the river as one member of our party returned to find his kayak floating away unmanned. Lucky for him we were able to easily retrieve it. On day 2 we packed up after breakfast and were off of the water by noon. Thanks to the UVLT for providing these awesome campsites.

Total Distance: 17+- miles

The portage by Sumner Falls was really muddy too, but then I hit the falls sort of at low tide last summer... Of course, even below the falls, the water levels were pretty low for a bit...

Saw a father/son looking for crawdads below the falls too..

I forgot to mention the mud. We always make ajoke about how one of our friends can never seem to get in and or out without getting it all over himself.
