Me and a pal spent a great weekend kayaking and hiking in north central Ct. paddling in Bigelow Hollow State Park (2 ponds w/ launch sites, and 1 pond requiring +/- 1.25m carry in. We did not paddle the back country pond but did hike around the area to scout the carry in which looks easy w/ a set of wheels.) and Mansfield Hollow SP (this lake is split in 1/2 by a causeway w/ a navigable tunnel between.) Both parks also have an extensive trail network which we took advantage of in between our 3 paddles. Bigelow Hollow had a $6 entry fee, the other park was no charge. Picnic facilities enabled a nice BBQ dinner Sat. evening. Hope to be back in the future to check out this neck of the woods, about 1 1/2 hr from our town, there's lots more to explore that we didn't have time for on our overnite trip.

This weekend would be a good time to return. Marking the 100th anniversary of the CT state park system, all parking fees and admission charges to state parks and state park museums have been waived.
