Thanks for reminding me of Marmot's replacement and repair policy. I have a windshirt of theirs that once ripped, for unknown reasons, along a side seam. I could never tell whether they repaired it or replaced it with an identical model when they sent an intact one back to me (and which has now lasted for many, many years).
The problem with the hardshell is that they seem to have stopped producing hardshell jackets altogether, perhaps ceding that market to Arc'teryx, OR, and others. And what I have is, as I said, now really old technology, with outdate Gore-Tex, outdated construction, and outdated outer fabric.
