Trails: Old Bridle Path, Franconia Ridge Trail, Falling Waters Trail
Conditions: Lower sections were well-tracked and bare-bootable. Somewhat icy above. Some bare rock on the ridge. Brook crossings were all easy; but could be more difficult as soon as there is more significant melting. A couple of blowdowns on upper Falling Waters Trail.
Equipment: I was glad for full crampons on the icier, steeper segments of trail, though others seemed to be doing O.K. with microspikes or snowshoes. Poles very helpful. I carried - but did not use - snowshoes, and did not posthole at all. However, there was plenty of evidence that others had been postholing (probably on the Saturday, which was warmer).
Comments: An absolutely gorgeous day to be in the mountains. Lots of hikers out enjoying the day.
