Did you know that the White Mountain National Forest has a volunteer program to reduce the 100 Search and Rescue annual missions that occur in the 800,000-acre forest?

Did you know the majority of National Forest trail maintenance and sign production is performed by volunteers?

Are you interested in giving back to the community? Want to play a key role improving visitor safety, preparedness and knowledge? Interested in contributing in a small or large way? We can use your help!

The U.S. Forest Service will present a discussion of volunteer opportunities in the National Forest. This discussion include an overview of each activity, the commitment and the benefits. No matter your age, ability, or time availability opportunities exist for all.

Activities include Trailhead Stewards, Trail Adopters (maintainers), Trail Patrol, Adopt-a-shelter/Tent Site, Historical Interpretation, Visitor Center, Front Country Patrol and Sign Shop.

Most program activity occurs in the summer months and early fall, when the number of visitors peak. Training is provided in the springtime. Volunteers become a part of public land management and serve as the eyes and ears of the White Mountain National Forest. Our trails program recently received the U.S. Forest Service regional award for the greatest volunteer impact in meeting USFS goal and has been cited by the New Hampshire Fish and Game as critical to reducing the number of back country injuries each year.
