Tim,

Nice job with the coversion. Don't have much time to really check it out until Friday but first glance looks like it's not missing any fingers or toes.
And to think, on my 3000th post.

E-mail notification should be working. I just got my own notification from a PM from Alan.

Thanks Tim- terrific job with the conversion! Great that you got links converted and are keeping the redirection in place. Lots of good things with the current version of vBulletin and the forums will definitely benefit from them. Was pleased to see my email notifications in my inbox this morning and know that the site was back up.

Have had very little time to navigate around and check things out so far, but I will note there is some significant funkiness in the display in Safari on the iPad. Nothing that prevents navigation or viewing/editing posts, just aesthetics. I can send to screenshots if you want but I'm sure you'll be doing some general tweaking for a few days so I'm happy to hold off.

Thanks again for taking on this job!!

Looking good so far!
If you try to log into vftt.org/forums instead of www.vftt.org/forums, you get a vBulletin "Invalid Redirect" error.
Is it correct to say that "What's New" and "New Posts" are exactly the same?
Banner photo is quite the perspective. :)

Please use this thread for:

Questions about the new site
Problems or concerns

Tim
I have a PM with a link to the old forum, which did not get converted. I can of course change it every time I link to it, but I can not change the source of it. I suppose I could forward the message to myself and solve the problem that way as well, but then it would be in my 'sent' box, not my 'inbox', and appear to come from me, not the original author.

If I find any other broken links (or missing ones! :D ) I will let you know.

If it ain't snowin' there, we ain't goin' there.
iPad display is furry, fragmented and funky

Great new look for the site -- kudos! On my iMac, all is good. However, on my iPad, individual threads have

  • a tiny font display,
  • multiple copies of the image of a certain furry black dog and his owner added above the individual posters' avatars, and
  • the panoramic header photo is inserted in each post after the first line of text.

All non-VFTT web sites are displaying fine.

I do not have an iPad, so if you have problems, please take a screen shot and forward it to me. Maybe MichaelJ & I can work on this together one evening?

Interesting, my iPad display of an individual thread (this one) looks perfectly fine. Font is a proper size and everything is laid out where it should be.
I do see some minor font inconsistencies on the iPhone (text of threads, and in the thread list of a forum is a little too big relative to the rest of the text and relative to the box in which it's enclosed) but nothing like what you (sardog1) describe.

I sent you (Tim) some screen shots.

I'd be happy to help with debugging this, except next week I'll be two timezones away and fairly busy.

Thanks, I've sent some.

I also notice that the links in posts are pretty faint and hard to discern, regardless of the device I'm using. As a test, I fixed that with making the letters bold on the link text for one of my previous posts.

A nit, but the old board had a 'members' link on the front page. You can still get to it, but it takes 2 hops, one to 'yourself', and then to members.

a couple of things

I notice some Black on Blue fonts i.e. in Groups Uncategorized Snow Play

Default sort for the Snow Play social group has changed to ascending date so we don't see latest contribution right away. Instead we got to go to the last page of the conversation.

iPad display is perfect now. That was fast! Droid (with Dolphin browser) is too. Much better mobile experience even with the full site. Nice!

I tried to see If I could change that being the Groups creator but no such luck I also cant figure out how to make a group icon avitar either.

Anyone been able to find the User Command Post? Can we still give greens?

Love how we can embed videos now!

The member list is available fairly quickly from the |Forums| tab, and then Community -> Member List. I largely took the defaults from vBulletin, figuring that, as a UI developer myself, they had put a fair amount of effort into improving their UI. If you use the Mount Washington Observatory forums, you are already used to vBulletin 4.

There are some places where the font-on-backgrounds are not perfect. I will go through them over time. The forums and PMs look decent (IMO) and that was my goal.

I didn't do anything, so that is interesting. Maybe a proper mobile style sheet finally loaded? I am not yet a mobile or tablet user myself.

Greenies are available via the little star below every post. You can view your greenies under "Settings" available at the top right of the page.

There are a handful of ways to find things - I didn't take anything away.
