My local hiking group, The Denmark Mountain Hikers, is having a trail magic event on August 16, 2024 on the AT where it crosses Rte. 302 in Crawford Notch. Any suggestions when we should be there? We got set up last year at 9am and I think we missed several thru hikers. Also suggestions on what to provide for vegan hikers? Thanks. BTW anyone is welcome.

NoBo hikers may start from Ethan Pond, a scant 1.5 hours away. Sunrise is 5:50, so a 7am start should catch the early birds.
For home-made vegan meals, stick with any rice and bean dish. A little acid, like flavored vinegar, turns it from bland to wow. And nothing will go bad, even in hot weather, so they can enjoy it on Webster or Jackson. It's moist and ready to eat, so package it in a ziploc bag that fits in a cook kit.

A few years ago, a buddy and I went up to the AT parking lot in NH just north of Mt Moosilauke and did Trail magic. I hard boiled a LOT of chicken eggs and had racks of hot dog rolls and large squeeze mayo bottles and it was a huge hit. We also cooked hotdogs and had soda, chips, etc.

If you've got refrigeration, ice cream and frozen treats are always a hit. Calories GOOD!!

The hiker who was the original "Wolf" from the DC area (1980's homemade tomato soup can fuel stove HEET) told me that a zero degree sleeping bag will keep ice cream frozen even during the summer.
