Minor stuff: When I insert a link like this the code is doubled, I need to erase the second half of the code to then insert the verbage. Not a problem, but could be simpler. Also, probably just my old eyes, but the blue of the inserted link looks so close to the black of the regular text that I've missed some links. It may also be the font it's defaulted to. Could that blue or the font be changed to something more noticeable ?

Definitely agree!

My solution is to bold the text of my link:

VFTT Forums

which gives VFTT Forums, much more visible than VFTT Forums IMHO

I am pretty sure that this was mentioned earlier, but could not find it.

It was mentioned earlier, and I am keeping notes. The link property allows a color and text decoration (like you get an underline on a mouse hover), but it controls a bunch of other links as well, so I am not eager to mess with styles too much.

You can always use the style chooser at the bottom of the page to use the VB4 default style. The old styles from the previous site are VB3-based (actually, they might be VB2-based) and are not compatible with VB4.

Chip - I am not sure exactly what you are doing to get the double codes. I just used the Link icon and entered a URL and it came out as expected: http://www.google.com shows up as http://www.google.com.

I might be doing something wrong, and I don't 'speak computer', but, if instead of showing the actual link, you wanted the thread to say 'this is google', you need to overwrite the second set of 'code' and insert what you want it to read. The old site would show a blue area, I think, where you'd insert the verbage. Like instead of http://www.google.com/ you want to say this is Google you'll need [ URL= "http://www.google.com/" ] this is Google and not [ URL= "http://www.google.com/" ] http://www.google.com/ .

Again, not a big deal.

Now fixed, many thanks, Tim, for all the work you have done and are still doing!!!

It's not a big deal, but is anyone else getting email notifications of threads that they subscribe to way after the corresponding post is made? I just received a notification at 7:06pm for a post that was made at 2:03pm. This is just one example of many. Maybe my clock is off? :)

E-mail is described as a best-effort service. You are never guaranteed it will be delivered on any particular schedule. It's possible that the hosting company has a very busy e-mail server and thus there are delays. It happens a lot with the "free" e-mail providers too (not all, and not all the time.)

Let me know if it becomes truly problematic and I can ask the support people.

It's not a big deal, and I will probably just turn notification off. I visit the site often enough, and always use the "new posts" option, so I won't be missing anything.

For the record, I am cheap and use Hotmail because I am used to it and it's free, so I accept its shortcomings. At 9:30pm tonight I received a notification of a post made yesterday at 2pm, and at 10:47pm I rec'd the notification of the reply that you made on this thread at 7:49pm. Seems to be kind of random.

Again, no big deal, you've done a great job on the big issues of the transition. Thank you so much for your efforts! I was really just wondering if anyone else was having this issue.

I got a PM notification many hours after I read the PM.
Speaking of which...

I can only do a "soft delete" of private visitor messages I received, they apparently remain on the board permanently even though most of them were of one-time value only and who can access them? But I can delete regular posts, so why can't I delete PMs?

Users can only soft delete anything. Moderators / Administrators can hard delete things. Users who visit your profile cannot see deleted messages, although Moderators / Administrators can see all soft-deleted items.

It would seem that storing invisible messages permanently is not a good use of disk space.

Unless moderators wish to periodically review and purge deleted messages, why not allow users to delete them?

Lots of other reasons, Roy, but believe it or not the mods sometimes receive complaints when the kiddies don't play nice and it's necessary to see who threw the first snowball. ;)

Can we request signing up new members yet? I had one, John Galt (via Dave M)that I requested that appears to have been sidelined during the transition.

Dave Metsky is currently handling the new members, but he is skiing in Crested Butte so he is probably not going to be adding members until he returns.

The "New Membership Requests" link at the top should get you the current procedure for requesting new membership. Unregistered or logged out users will see an announcement instructing them in how to become a member.

(The process still requires a referral, sent via an e-mail link available from the "New Membership Requests" link above.)

Search problem:

The old Board would let me search just the Trip Reports, or Q&A NY, etc.

I do not see a way to do this anymore, is there something I'm missing?

If you click on "advanced search" and then click on the "search single content type" tab at the top of the screen, the "search in forum(s) option appears.

Yes, but I want to search just a portion of the Forums, such as the Trip reports, or New England Q&A, etc.

Like I said, this used to be an option...
