Over the last month or so, all of a sudden, Webshots is very slow on my computer. So much so that I can't really get through a slide show, since it takes minutes for each picture to come up. Even if I'm looking at the whole album and click on an individual picture, it takes very long to gradually fill into my screen. I have a pretty new, fast computer and cable access. Plus, I don't have slowness issues with any other online application, including picutres in other photo programs, slide shows, etc.

Any ideas or suggestions??

Thanks.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I have been having increasing problems downloading photos to a Webshots album. It appears to have been my Norton program interfering. Once I disabled (temporarily) the auto-protect and the firewall, I was OK.

Strange, because I had no trouble before last week. Maybe Norton installed a new update of some kind.

Your not alone, except for me, I've always had this problem, not just the last month or so. It is exactly how you describe. My solution was to switch to Flickr.com and not view anything on Webshots.

Hmm, I have noticed somewhat an opposite thing with Webshots, I noticed recently that uploading pictures was faster recently, though it might of just been temporary usage and stuff.

I noticed that they upped the free picture limit to 1000, not 250... I guess that means I have room for now 4000 pictures, I keep bouncing on the limit... ;)

the only solution I found when I had a similar problem a year back was to move to flickr.com, much smoother system

cheers

Question: Is this something I can do to view Webshots album links people post up on the board for me/us to view? That is, if someone uses Webshots to put together a set of pictures, do I have an alternative choice of how I view those pictures once I click on the link and Webshots opens?
(I've never used a program to post pictures, have only viewed others so far)

Thanks!

Photobucket is very smooth. I think Flickr does the same thing, but it gives you the
tags so you can post pics on message board threads.

I am very new to this. But I have found that it takes an hour or more to upload 10 photos to webshots. Snapfish was very fast on the upload but I could not post a link..When I queried snapfish they told me they recently discontinued the ability to post links in a website such as VFTT. Cost of doing business was their reason. I noticed Giggy was able create links in Snapfish, but he tells me it is his wife who is the computer wizz in his family. I guess we now know who is master of the mouse ;) in his family.

Guys, for small pictures or the occasional item, you might inquire your ISP to see if they allow you XX mbs of webspace. My ISP allows for I think 5MBs of webspace so for the occasional picture or say small avatar, I simply use my webspace.

What your ISP will do is setup a directory in your account that you can upload and download data via an FTP client such as WS_FTP
or any of the free FTP clients. Then you can simply use that link with the IMG tags. Your ISP can tell you the pathway to your root web directory and probably has info on their homepage anyway.

to answer your second question, yea. when you post a pic to flickr, you are provided with a url, or address for it, which you can then post to forums like this one. this is a pic I took years ago, and is on that account:

HTML:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sanguine_crackpot/32913941/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/22/32913941_b51245ffdc_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="More juneau icefield" /></a>

the really cool thing is that you can do this in all sorts of different sizes, like the ubiquitious tiny thumbnail:

HTML:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sanguine_crackpot/32913941/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/22/32913941_b51245ffdc_s.jpg" width="75" height="75" alt="More juneau icefield" /></a>

hope this helps & good luck

Now if anyone can tell me why there is a multi second delay when I open Firefox, I would be interested in reading it in an email or private message.

One of the things that really slows Firefox down is not clearing the "downloads" list. Go to Tools >> Downloads (Ctrl-J) and hit "Cleanup".

I have never had any problems with Firefox. It is faster and cleaner then IE. It was so good in fact that IE 7 stole all of its innovations!

I will say this -- on Webshots, for uploading, there is an active X control which only works with IE. This gives the browser and the control access to your local computer. The pros are it can be faster. The cons are this is a mechanism for installing spyware, viruses, and general pain-and-suffering ;-)

Webshots recently changed the slideshow mechanism from a javascript image array to Flash. Perhaps this causes your problems? Maybe they have simply consolidated their servers and they can't handle the load any more.
